Plymouth fan and Football League blogger here. Must say what a good win that appears to be from the outside. Very similar to your win at Home Park earlier in the season by the sound of it; can see you nicking a play-off spot if you can maintain some kind of momentum through to January.

I want to write a piece on your recent good form on the site I run, and I just wanted to ask people what they think has led to the resurgence? Chip Fireball seemed to think you were going nowhere in pre-season, so has the turnaround been down to Mick Wadsworth? Is it simply sound organisation and good team-spirit that he's instilled?

Also, I'd be interested to hear what happened to the takeover that was mooted in the summer. All sorted now?

Lloyd...Unfortunate user name for a Hartlepool United message board.
Your very polite though, and someone who knows what there talking about, rather than spouting inane drivel like me will give you a proper answer soon.

the difference mick wadsworth has got everyone pulling in the same direction,he is a breath of fresh air compared to the last bloke who split the fans and had everyone at each others throat it is a complete turnaround most pools fans have a smile back on their faces and are now looking forward to the next match instead of dreading it,the takeover was just pie in the sky and if chris turner was involved would have been a disaster he had the midas touch in reverse everything he touched turned to shit

Lloyd, with our previous management team we had poor shape, no proper left back at the club, someone who would play players on reputation rather than performance, and no plan B. We employed the same tactics whether home or away, did not counteract the opposition strengths, and the players are now playing for each other. hth.

Cheers fellas. So, it's not simply a case of sticking 10 men behind the ball and nicking a goal on the break (as some Hudds fans would have you believe)? Impressed with the amount of local lads in the team; wouldn't be surprised if that was a factor.

we've lost the aura of defeatism that we had under the previous regime.

we believe we can match and beat anyone in this league, but without the arrogance and assumption that we see in other clubs (leeds, brighton, huddersfield to name just three).

we have a manager/coach that is meticulous in his planning, and we have a team being sent out with specific instructions depending on the opposition.

we have ironed out the bulk of our daft mistakes at the back.

we have our very best attacking player back from injury.

we have the best defensive midfielder in the league and a manager who knows how to manage him.

we have an excellent team spirit, and a squad of talented players that are being coached to produce their best more consistently.

the team, and more significantly the club, are starting to win the fans back after a couple of years of mounting indifference.

we certainly play it tight at the back and we are more of a counter attacking team.

The only reason we play 1 up front is we have only got 1 good striker, the rest are, er, well, not of the required standard...

Guessing that's James Brown and Paul Mitchell?

Adam Boyd not up to it these days, then?

All this stands in complete contrast with my own club of course...

I would add the signing of Jake Kean as a major factor

dunno bout the huddersfield fans, but i can recall us having a good half dozen attempts at goal today. our goal was beautifully created with some one touch football, and we also missed the best chance of the game.

yes we do get a lot of people behind the ball and make it hard for teams, but isnt that what you are meant to do away from home ? or are we expected to do what we have done the last 2 seasons and get twatted every game ?

the bottom line is that we got rid of a shyte manager . the whole football club changed when that happened because nobody had any confidence in him. 3 weeks before the season started he said it would need a miracle for us to stay up. thats how much confidence he had in players now looking at making the play-offs.

Lovely stuff. Sounds like Turner was just covering himself and that you've got a proper team on your hands.

I'll come back and post a link tomorra...

Turner was indeed covering himself and was like a psychological drain on both the players and fans. If he ever sets foot in The Vic again, I will hunt the fucker down with the half a pool cue I keep behind the front door

Piece now up here for those interested in an outsider's view. Cheers for your help, all, and best of luck. Would love to see you up there come the end of the season.

Nice write up mate but you did fail to be patronising and that is unforgivable when reviewing Hartlepool United.

I don't particularly agree with the bit about League 1 being of poorer standard this season. Having watched 4 successive seasons of League 1 football I'd say the standard has consistently been more or less what we have now with the occasional team who is head and shoulders above the rest. Like last season with Norwich and Leicester in the season before that.

The only difference from our persepective is that we have had a lot of organisation drilled into us by Wadsworth and have consequently stopped giving away soft goals.
