Ran out of gammon and beef at 7.45 tonight. Considering it goes up in price at 7pm as you get more 'choice' than thats rather pathetic.

Went to Raby Arms instead and had a very nice meal.

I don't mind the place, but the last three times we've been we couldn't get a seat... mind you, it saves my blood pressure watching the greedy bastids you see there. I recall one family who looked like emaciated rats going up for their seconds (or possibly more) because the veggies and gravy are free, the groaning plates were a tribute to how much anyone could balance on a plate without a bund wall around it.

Hats off to Snowy for probably the first mention of the word 'bund' on here. A smashing noun which deserves more use, preferably in smutty comedy circumstances to describe a situation involving copious amounts of fluid.

The word bund stuck in my mind because many years ago we had a chemical leak and the bund wall, as is it's job, trapped all the liquid. We told the apprentice to sort it out, meaning, get it pumped into drums .... the thick fooker came back pleased as punch, he just drilled a hole in the wall.

I dont like the place myself, you get a far better dinner at the Tavistock in the Boro at half the price. i know its in the Boro but if you can overlook that its well worth the trip, another good dinner is the bottom house in Greatham where you get 2 courses for a fiver and its spot on

But surely if you have all the hassle of driving to the land of smog plus the petrol cost, the half price tag is cancelled out ... our lass said. :uhoh: ... and don't we have a Tavistock in the town? sctatchinghead

I totally agree havent been there for about two years but the menu and portions are huge for a small price.

I went to see Peter Kay with the rents last week in Newcastle and went into a place called Barluga on Gray Street, had a massive bit of belly pork on a bed of black pudding mash and gravey all for £8.95 bargin. Oh and Rob Lee and John Berisford were on the next table, Johns missus was about my age and had a wiff of the Mrs Flinders about her

... and the best part being, when after ravenously eyeing up the choice of meats, the road kill slasher asks them which one they want and the 'woman' asks if she can have a bit of each. The irony being, that if they offered undercooked thirty day old putrid zebra testicles thinly sliced in gravy, they'd take it, eat it and shiit it, none the wiser.
