It's an eighties thing. Steve Strange was the leader of a band named 'Visage' note I used the word 'leader' and not 'lead singer'. All of the vocals were done by Midge Ure. If anyone is in doubt listen to 'Mind of a toy' its probably the most obvious on that song.

Despite everyone looking like a raving queen, these were great days. Perhaps not the best era to be wandering round Hartlepool covered in Boots number 7 but hey ho.

Oh yes, Mr ECG is more than a little familiar with foundation, blusher and lipstick.

You think that's bad? I came back from a Thursday night out in London (why were the big nights always Thursday in New Romantic land?) to be met at the gate by the Regiment Sgt Major of the Royal Marines unit I was a member of and had to explain away looking like something out of Debenhams cosmetics department.

His reply to me: Come on lads, you are supposed to be members of an elite commando unit so when you go out remember that. Next time: try a little less blusher, a slightly lighter shade of eye shadow............ and on and on it went for the next six months.
