Will you be rooting for a Darlo win next Saturday or will you be hoping we get stuffed?

This may be interesting

Not really arsed, we have put ourselves in a very strong posistion. We would never turn down any favours from any mid table team but if we don't get promotion now we probably don't deserve it.... It is now in our own hands........

So the unthinkable happens and you don't win at Torquay. You won't be worried then on how Swindon got on?

Admit it, you secretly want Darlo to win to help you out.

We have Walsall at home 2weeks after

There is still a long way to go this season. If we get beat by Torquay it is hardly panic stations even if Swindon stuff you lot. The way I look at is that we need 4 wins to guarentee play offs and a maximum of 9 to get promoted. There is still a lot of hard work to be done, teams will drop points including Pools but it is now in our hands, we've just got to stay ahead of the game and continue to be ruthless......

I accept all that Mr Jonny but surely Auto is the first priority. The plays offs are a lottery as we all know and you don't want to finish 4th and potentially miss out. My question was will you be rooting for us to win next week. I know every poolie will, I just wanted to hear it for myself

Just like every Loid will be rooting for Pools against teams around us. In a peculiar twist, we may end up rooting for you more times till the end of the season than not

Every point you take against a top 10 club (March 25th excluded) can only benefit us, and the same applies to us taking points from Swindon, Walsall, Lincoln and Dons ( not like i'm saying we will)

Never look a gift horse in the mouth, if Darlo win we may find those points useful in the weeks to come. For once, I'll be wanting Darlo to win and to win again in a few weeks time against certain teams ....all for our benefit.

Yes Sarf I will be rooting for Darlo next week - & when they play Lincoln & Walsall & MK Dons, if Darlo can beat them it takes some of the pressure off us

Same as you will be for us (I would expect) when we play the likes of Wycombe, Notts County, Chester etc.

With a 16 point gap I dont see Darlo as a threat,Swindon & Walsall we still need to drop points so,yes please Darlo, take 3 points each from them.

Let's face it, this is hardly a new situation. I seem to recall back in the bad old days when Tait got sacked and Turner took over, we were all rooting for you to beat Carlisle as it would help our relegation battle no end....

When it comes down to it, I don't care if Darlo get promoted every season so long as we're winning the title at the same time.... a bit like the old thing of "May you live for a thousand years.... and may my face be the last thing you see". You can be runners-up in every competition so long as Pools can win them all......

Strangely enough promotion is not *quite* in our own hands. Walsall are still above us, Swindon can pass us on points with their game in hand, and MkDonkeys can catch us with their game in hand making us rely on goal difference.
Our GD might be superior to theirs right now, but no matter how many goals we start banging in, there's nothing we can do to stop the Donkeys banging in even more.
So for the time being, we still need to be aiming to win every single game.

Some interesting replies there and strangely not one poster spelt Darlo with a W

I never posed the question with Darlo being any threat to Pools, because they're not. You have vanished over the hill as far as I'm concerned and we are faintly clinging on to the tails of 7th (Which i still doubt we will do, but hey, whats life without optimism)

Don't get over confident with Torquay. You should dick em big time, but footy has a way of throwing up strange results

Thanks for pointing that out. I shall call them Warlo from now on

Over-confident with Torquay? If you look at the last few posts, we are talking about winning EVERY remaining game

Well that won't happen. Warlo will see to that   You can win all the others though

Interestingly enough we still have MK, Stockport, Swindon, Wycombe, Notts county and Darlo AWAY, added to these relegation threatened Torquay......so it looks like we'll be looking at improving our home record to pick up some points..... confised

Walsall still have to play both Swindon and MK. If they beat Swindon then finishing above Swindon is in our hands; If they beat, or draw with, MK then finishing above MK is in our own hands. And if they fail to beat both of them then finishing above Walsall is in our own hands. So, in short, it IS down to us.

Fair observation. I hadn't realised there were so many dog-eat-dog games left.
Still, it's not worth starting to calculate the magic promotion number until Pools have promotion in their own hands with a decent cushion, otherwise one bad result and the number could cease to be valid.

HOWEVER, there is another promotion run-in indicator: the one that tells us how many clubs can no longer catch us (when it reaches 21 we're home and dry), and which *always* stays valid.
And it could come into existence next Saturday. If we beat Torquay then they can no longer overtake us on points. They could theoretically overtake us on goal difference if they won all their games, we lost all ours, and they overturned a GD advantage of at least 41 in the process!
