First half we gave them a good game, second half we couldn't get near them.
Yes the officials were poor but the gulf in class was massive for the last 45.

I rarely disagree with you on football matters Chip but I don't think that scoreline flattered them at all. The gulf was HUGE and they played keepball for most of the game. Wigan shaded the first half and then bossed the second.

I thought first half we were the better team and were very unlucky to go in 1 down. Second half, just confirmed what most of us new that our bench is piss poor, due to the dross turner has signed, and when we take Brown and Boyd off we posses no attacking threat. Still thats not wadsworths fault and i think Paul Murray looks a hell of a signing. I must say i think Haslam has come in and done a decent job, certainly a good player to have in the squad.

yeah they completely dominated the last half an hour, we couldnt get the ball of them, but for most of the game i thought we did well. Once Brown and boyd are off though were knackered, nothing upfront.

Well given he's worked under Wadsworth since he was a nipper yes I'm sure full credit goes to Chris Turner for that signing.

Turner's signings were shown up in the last half an hour when we brought three of them on, Behan, Larkin, and McSweeney.

Our first eleven are a decent side, the cack in the main signed last summer means we struggle after that.

Saying that tonight we were very good first half, second half to our credit Wigan had to change system and after that and the subs we couldn't get the ball.

me too, but i fear when brown and boyd come off we have nothing upfront and invite pressure onto us when it breaks down up top. id love us to sign a striker on loan that could come on last 20 minutes and do a job because Larkin and behan look a million miles away from being any use at all

Can't disagree with you there LT, Plus it was good to see the fans not boo at the end after we had been given a football lesson in the second half, Way to good for us and they have been the best Premier league/Championship side to come to The Vic in a while and most fans must have agreed when they never booed although there where a few walking out with 10mins to go saying we were a bag of shite.

ive never said chris turner hasnt signed any shite players, every manager signs crap players. just if hes signed a good player maybe he deserves credit. im not defending turner on everything hes done because he made mistakes, again as most managers do, i feel that some people on here go weeyyyy over board about how bad they they think he was though.

Second half was like watching

I thought for an hour we were really good until Boydie and Brown went off. It looked like we gave them more possession but that's called being organised and holding your shape so you don't get cut to ribbons.

How many chances did they have? A great delivery for the first goal, the Roddelega chance saved by Flinders, but other than that, not much cutting edge and Pools could of had a couple in the first half.

The concern is outside of the starting 11, Austin and Hartley and Humps, who do we have that is any good in the squad who you would trust to start a game? Larkin barely saw the ball let alone touch the bugger, and although Behan ran around he looked no danger and McSweeney is so weak on the ball he just is powder puff and gave ball away for the 3rd. As for the rest a waste of space.

3-0 was in no way representative of the game and with a fitter front 2 we could have beaten them. Premiership my arse.

We were like foooking pussycats. I expected more 2nd half, I think our youth team would have been about them more.

3-0 flattered Wigan. No question. I think 1-0 or 2-1 would have been a far fairer reflection of how things had gone. As many have pointed out we were the better team for a good hour of last night's game but sadly ran out of steam as I half expected we would. Even then they still needed an exceptional set piece to put the game to bed.

If we play like that on Saturday we will win. It's easy to forget Wigan are a premier league team (less than 150 FFS!) but they certainly know how to keep the ball when they need to. Sheff Wed won't be able to do that as efficiently. I'm full of confidence ahead of the game.

i thought we where very unlucky not too be infront last night, we played some class football at times and was one of the best performances ive seen from pools in along time. yes they had most of the ball in the second half but they where passing it about mainly in there half and posed no threat at all. free kick was class like but if we play like the first 60 mins on saturday we will beat sheff wed, plus we owe them one big style!!

The first goal killed the game, we were going to have to battle from then on.

Fair play to the lads, we had opportunities with Gamble twice & Monkhouse - but Wigan made it very hard for us in the second half.

I think we just forget the result; take the positives and move on to the important game on Saturday.

You really did watch a different game if you think it was one sided...

All I'm saying is the second half was very poor, we were chasing shadows and a big more fight and tackles wouldn't have gone amiss.

First half they were gushing about Pools on Radio 5. Neat passing, good movement ect and this against a PL team who any number of their players cost more than our entire team. I bet they have players who earn more in a week than Pools have handed out for a record signing.

Second half the class showed and even the pro PL radio 5 said that the result didn't relflect the overall game.

Well that's me put in me place:)

1st half we were brilliant credit to the lads for playing like they did after conceeding in such a poor fashion so early. Yes Wigan passed and played a very good holding game for parts of it but Pools will destroy League One defences with play like that.

2nd half we didn't start badly but the subs started the difference and Larkin and Behan may as well have just been 2 random blokes picked from the stands for all the difference they made.

I always thought that the deal between Pools fans and Pools players was that win or lose, as long as gave everything it would be fine.

I just can't understand why so many miserable sods left after the 3rd goal.

It's not like we live in a sprawling metropolis where public transport is limited or the traffic jams at full time will be so bad they won't get back to Owton Manor till the clubs shut.

Listening to the game on 'Pools Player last night, it sounded very depressing to have to listen to and watch a game that Wigan just totally dominated.

They did just not allow us at all to get into the game last night.

You just could not argue with that free-kick that Wigan scored from.

I can't believe why some people left before the end of the game.

I felt so sorry for the players last night. They tried their hardest, but to no avail.

It was great to hear that they were applauded off the pitch last night.

On the contrary it was a very entertaining game to watch and only went stale in the last 12 minutes or so when Wigan doubled their advantage. It was a top drawer free kick although it is debatable whether a free kick should have been given in the first place.

As for not letting us into the game at all...... God knows what game commentators were watching. We should have been at least level at half time. In fact Wigan posed virtually zero goal threat all game from open play. The final goal was a decent enough effort but our lads had more or less accepted that the game was gone by that stage.

Well, hearing that your team are 3-0 down at home against a Premiership side with seemingly no chance of getting back into the match is for me very sad anyway.

Apart from Monkhouse's shot, we weren't really allowed to play by Wigan I think, especially in the second half.

I'm only basing my opinion on what I heard from the commentary. That's why I said that I listened to 'Pools Player last night.

I'm sure that if I had been there, then I would have seen that for my own eyes and I would have said that.

I'm still entitled to an opinion though.

I welcome the fact that people can enlighten me more about the game, but it would be wrong to tell people that they should keep their mouth shut.

I don't think I was the only 'Poolie that was listening to the game on 'Pools Player last night.

I listened to the match on the radio last night Mr Kent as I didn't get home from work til just after half 7.

I haven't tried to tell people who were there what it was like as anybody doing that would have to be some kind of moron and I'm not.

I'm not telling people what it was like.

I'm just mentioning what the commentators said and I'm also learning about the game from those that were able to go.

Re-read your posts and stop trying to deny what you've said. If it reads unlike how you meant to say it then fair enough but just admit that.

I've described my understanding of the game based on the commentary from 'Pools Player, but I haven't told people that a particular thing definitely happened because I haven't been able to tell people that I was definitely at the game.

We weren't 3-0 down until the 86th minute I reckon no matter who we were playing, I would say with that score and that amount of time played , we would have no chance of getting back in the game.

Yeah, but I felt even at 2-0 down and with Wigan just holding on to possession at times, I thought it was going to be evry difficult to get back into the game then.

This is not a go at any one in particular, but I can never work out why people give an opinion on someone else's opinion.

Listening to a commentary on a game your automatically influenced , in my opinion by the person giving the commentary.

You only have to read various peoples opinions who were at the game last night to see how opinions vary.

I thought the first half performance was as good a performance i've seen from pools for years.

I left the match last night feeling a bit disappointed we'd lost but very encouraged from the performance (1st half especially). Well done Pools.

Just watched Wadsworths interview on Pools Player, said he took Brown , Boyd and Murray off for the more important game on Saturday.

Can't argue with that, just a shame we haven't got decent players to sub them with.

Grand 1st half & we didnt deserve to be behind at half time.Reasonable 2nd half undone by a very good free kick.
We werent embarrassed or walloped,it was just one of those days when the 2 division difference made the difference.
