Any more for any more.....

Got stuck on the M62 on the way back, the weather was that bad. We all got out and had snowball fights with many more like minded drunken idiots.

We literally, and I mean RIGHT BEHIND IT, followed the Snow Plough over the M62 to Leeds to get home.. What a journey.

BTW, that "Grass Bank" photo on the link..that's the IMPROVED grass bank! Prior to the installation of the hoardings at the back, it went MUCH further up the hill than that and had a small covered terrace right at the top.

It was indeed a hit-hole of collossal proportion.

Always lashed it down, and we usually lost there.

Always reminded me of Moss Rose.

I went to the cup tie in 1990 when we got beat 2-0.
It was about 3 foot deep with snow and we were behind the goal on the grass bank foooking freezing.
Our Van went on its side on the motorway on the way home, I think it was Hudsons Taxis came out and brought us home.

This is another blast from the past, the 5 things (against the next opponents), thread.

Always made interesting reading for the next game.

Few things about Wigan.

Travelled down on the Friday night in 97 to stay at a mates place, he was Wigan fan, got there met up with him only to be told our game was off the next day. Ended up watching Blackburn v Port Vale in FA Cup and what a boring game. Stood in there end with same mate for rearranged game drew 2-2 Andy Saville was up front for them, think there current boss Martinez was playing. Halliday scored for us.

Old Springfield Road wasn't one of my happy hunting grounds with Pools been about 4 times never saw us win.

Game I do remember against them was at Vic we beat them 4-3 early 90s. We were 3-0 in about 20 minutes just after the hour mark it was 3-3 took a goal fairly near the end from McKinnon to win it for us.

Players that played for both teams... Saville ....Widdrington,, probably others but they only 2 I can remember

Pools often get linked with Wigan when you compare what can be achieved by a small town club with the right investment and owners. Unlike Hartlepool with 90,000 population the town of Wigan has a population of 85,000 but the wider Borough is 300,000. So despite being stuck between Liverpool and Manchester they have a population the size of Teesside to draw support from. Of couse they've got the Rugby League to contend with. The fact they were only elected to the league in1978 is the most remarkable thing.
