Three games in and Pools are 8th top.

Given the opportunity would you settle for that now?

I'd settle for 8th top but I'd prefer to wait till the end of the season. Three match seasons aren't really my cup of tea (unless you're talking about basketball or baseball).

Monty, I hope you're not suggesting that the Bunker is being ridiculously positive?

said to my mate, though we've signed hardly anybody of note, just 4 players late on. We have started the season, with a side that know each others play, not feat. 6 strangers, albeit with training/friendlies. OK when we lose a game or 2, opinions will change. I said we NEEDED TO offload/complete new signings, but results are what count. Guess James Brown for a season is A new signing !
We had 3 seasons in arow reaching the play offs in this division, but at the moment, mid table would be excellent, but if we would have beat Swindon.........

A fit James Brown is the equivelent to a £200'000 cartwheel signing (if he stays fit).

He's right. We did three seasons in a row but that was Div 4

99/00 lost to Darlo
00/01 lost to blackpool
01/02 lost to cheltenham
02/03 promotion

In this division it was twice; Bristol City and Sheff Weds.

Quite the contrary; I think you're being uduly pessimistic!

My point was you're wishing the season away. In a successful season you want to savour every match.
Or to put it another way: there's quarter of the season left, we're still hovering around 8th place, will you settle for 8th then? uh?

I would be more than happy with a final position of 8th.

Remaining in this division with a comfortable mid table finish and getting our crowds back up to around the 4500 mark regularly would represent an excellent season as far as I'm concerned.

Still a long way to go, of course.
