Cos this is a messageboard and it's a topic that directly affects HUFC. I'm guessing. confised

If it was a topic I had no interest in then I wouldn't personally bother opening a thread titled 'Why do so many people in our town support newcastle?'. But thats just me.

I give a fook. I give a fook that my football club is crying out for support, whilst the majority of townsfolk choose to 'support' A.N Other.
It sticks in my craw that Hartlepool lads, can have a complete disregard for their towns football team, yet pay to go and watch Newcastle or Boro or whoever.

So, in short, me. I give a flying proverbial, as should any Poolie with any sense of local pride or identity.

I play 5 aside on a wednesday and the other night out of the 10 people there only 3 supported Pools, all lads aged 30-39 from the town. There where 2 Mags (one my brother ffs), one Mackem (my brother in law ffs whose infected his kids with the shyte), a Liverpool and an Arsenal fan and you've guessed it, 2 Man Utd fans, none of which have actually been to Old Trafford, infact they haven't been to Manchester itself.

In the car on the way home one of the mags was asking how I can support Pools when they are shyte, and the last time he'd seen them play was Accrington Stanley in L2 and Pools played like a sunday pub team in his words. I told him that Pools are in the position they are with the players we have because knobheads like him support other teams despite being born and bred in Pools and that if even 6 out of the 10 lads there that night supported their home town team we'd be much better off.

When you ask these people why they support their team they come out with a whole host of spurious excuses like my Dad supported them, to which I always ask "if your dad supported Rochdale would you?" and you can see it in their faces that they've been rumbled.

My brother supports the Mags because my Dad did because his dad did. My grandad was from Wallsend so fair play. However in his life my brother has supported Liverpool, Pools and now the mags who he started supporting when it was trendy to like them and its more a fashion statement for him. When he comes out with the I hate Mackems stuff, I gleefully remind him that half our family are Sunderland fans, mam was born in Sunderland and her family are from Easington and are season ticket holders, he sort of mumbles and tells me to f off. My brother in law has had a supporting career almost exactly the same exept that he chose Sunderland as his fashion statement. He follows West and the town rugby and if he was so passionate about Sunderland why doesn't he follow their rugby team, and why was he contemplating getting a season ticket for the Falcons, a team from his hated Newcastle? Knobheads the lot.

That's why I'm bothered and why it boils my piss. There it's off me chest now.

At 5-a-side last night I think we had 3 Pools shirts (inc. me), 2 Liverpool shirts (inc. a Poolie who attends all the Pools games with me), 2 Diddlesbrough shirts, a Luton shirt, a lad playing in a plain white training top (who I know is a Pools fan) and Mr Old Dough playing indoors in a coat, so I reckon 6 Poolies out of 10 which aint great but not too bad either.

Tim - I remember many years ago your brother in law was going to Tenerife early in the year so bought his missus a bikini for valentines day from the mackem club shop.
She was less than impressed & told our lass there was more chance of her shoving it up his arse than wearing it
