there's been a load of 'debate' on here about looking at or signing 'older' players, and the shit-tinted glasses brigade had a bit of a whine about murray getting a trial but all reports from yesterday give him a decent write-up.

i watched most of the leeds game yesterday, and for me the stand-out player was 36 year old robbie savage. i enjoyed taking the proverbial out of him when he 'played' for brighton last season, as he looked utterly washed up and finished, but fook me he was excellent for derby yesterday. high point was when he paused for a couple of seconds with the ball at his feet in his own box when they were under pressure in the last few minutes, and used up a couple of extra seconds to wind the clock down.

now i am a fan of richie h, not just because of his loyalty or longevity but i still think he has a part to play. try as i might, i just couldn't see as many of the supposed faults that had so many 'fans' shouting the odds on here last season. he was certainly no worse than several other established younger players in the side.

not quite sure where i'm going with this, but as i enter the twilight of my totally undistinguished playing career myself, why are so many pools 'fans' obsessed with knocking older players, as so often they are the ones who, when surrounded with younger players to do the legwork, give a side like ours that bit of fookin nous that can make the difference between a comfortable mid-table finish and another nerve-shredding flirt with the drop ?

Murray did lose the ball on one particular occassion almost leading to a pants filling moment, cant remember what stopped the goal, whether a tackle or one of Flinders' inspiring saves sctatchinghead

I think it was a flinders save.
Other than that murray and gamble both looked comfortable and sweeney did a good job just in front of them, the only time rochdale looked threatening was when they were getting the ball out to the right side in the 1st half.We kept our shape well and restricted them to just passing it around at the back.

Only disappointment for me was bjornsson who looked out of his depth again, it made a big difference when boydy come on, having a player who can control and hold the ball for others to play off.

i watched the football league show and it shows flinders making 2 very good saves.

alas, it doesnt show their keeper making any.

Doesn't it show any of the four that they knocked off the line? 2 in the first half from mOnky and Gamble, then Boyd and a Collins header in the 2nd?

Their keeper was beaten on at least 3 occasions.

Won 8-3 against dyke house warriors, was a stroll in the park.

The ref even had to send one of our players off at 4-0 up to even out, but we still strolled through.

I sauntered through at centre back, too easy for me football these days.

Did you play?

You must have 'sauntered' too much being part of a defence that let 3 goals in.

30 yard free kick for one

Worst penalty ever given in greyfields history was other.

Fair play 1 of them was a decent goal.

Refereeing standard as always as poor as you can get.
