Which sites are the best to download ISO images of Linux

I fancy installing it on my new PC and would a prefer a version which is able to detect wireless LAN cards with the minimum amount of fuss, because Ive tried it in the past and its was a complete arse end of a job to get it working

The easiest is Linspire. It's an adaptation of Linux meant for Windows users but it's still linux under the bonnet - it's just that it comes with some proprietary drivers to overcome the pain in the arse you sometimes get in other Free Linux distros, especially for audiovisual.

I do believe Linspire do a free version - a la Fedora for Red Hat.

Wait a minute - yup I found it.

good luck and don't forget to partition your disks!

It's true that last time I had a bash at making Linux my main system, it was Fedora (free version of Red Hat) that gave the best results with WINE and by a long, long way. I don't know why this should be given that it's the same underlying system; all I do know is that whatever else I might be prepared to do without, I simply have no choice but to run MS Office for professional reasons - hence the need for good WINE (Crossover Office version) performance. On Ubuntu for example it was just too slow and kept getting slower and slower.

Having said that, Freespire is a very recent project and was not an option at the time, and the whole ethos of its progenitor Linspire is to get a maximum of Windows applications to run (as its former name "Lindows" suggests).
