1990s for me - I was a kid at school, without any cares or worries, great times, generally more happy than 00s when I was at secondary school studying.

1990s. Definitely. Purely because of my age at the time- I was 16 at the start of 1990 and spent the best part of the next decade at college, Uni etc getting off my tits and having a laugh with no cares or responsibilities. Pools were a bit shit for most of the time, but that didn't seem to matter when you were going home and away battered and having the craic. The 90s music kicks arse over every other decade too.

i'd have to say the 00's.

College in 00, started going out and getting plastered, uni, bit of the same.

Then had kids moved out all that mature stuff from 05 onwards.

"Youth is wasted on the young".

So 90s for me. Old enough to know and young enough to do something about it. :p
Mind you the music was frighteningly bad - but who was listening?

Oh and Paris. For the entire period. Which covers the issue of availability when it comes to doing something about it.

PPS: that implies nothing about my present ablity to do something about it!

(had to come back to Britain to continue wearing me burkha)

I want to change my answer to the 00's for the same reason as Yubep.

I was at college and discovered the town, drinking and women. Went to watch pools a lot home and away and generally had a great time on what little money I had.

Then in 2002 i went to study at University in Liverpool, I took £1,000 with my together with the first part of my loan and my £1,500 overdraft and from the 2nd of September till about the 31st of January I went out every night and spent it all. Wouldnt change it for the world went to Dublin to watch the 6 nations (due to a stupid drunken bet and going to the ferry terminal still drunk) shagged loads of birds, did loads of drugs and generally had a great time until the 2nd year when I had to study and had a bird.

In 2006 (i think) i went back to uni following being made redundant to do my masters at Teesside for a year. Due to being from Hartlepool i got a grant so got paid £60 a week to go to uni. As i generally just stayed round mates all this went on booze and weed, the course was great had to do a 6000 word essay every week and about 4 lectures, however these were all on Monday and tuesday so we used to blitz the work and finish on thursday leaving the rest of the week to go round the Boro and get hammered.

I then moved to Oxford to work for about 2 years as a forensic scientist, I then moved to Huntingdon to do what i do now. I spent a lot of money in these years but I wouldnt change it for the world if I won the lottery on Saturday I would do it all again but with better looking women more beer and more stuff i shouldnt be doing.

TBH I've enjoyed them all..............each decade offered something new and different. From a Pools perspective I would say the fifties because that's when I started supporting the club.
Musically the sixties for all the innovation and excitement that went with it.
Seventies and eighties when I became a father.
Nineties for the financial success I enjoyed.
The noughties for being able to retire in my fifties.
And the new decade to come to see Pools in the championship!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm happy with all that AND I've got a fantastic wife...............

i know its all a matter of personal opinion, but from about 92 onwards i pretty much lost interest in music, it was so appallingly bad.

the 60's for instance produced the beatles, the stones, hendrix, bob dylan, pink floyd etc.

what did the 90's produce ?

N-synch, Westlife, Boyzone, Eternal and so on and so forth

definately the 00's for me.

1) My 3 kids were all born in the 00's (give or take a couple of weeks!)
2) Pools were absolutely awesome for the most part.
3) Eminem came to prominence.
4) i met my fabulous Fiancee and soulmate, Lynn.

But most of the success of those bands and there best known stuff was in the 1990s Mr F.

And I'd rather listen to Oasis or Carter than The Who any day. The Beatles were ok but not as great as some people make out- they sold most of their records to the 1960s equivalent of chav lasses who liked how they looked rather than how they sounded and they were well marketed.

The truth is there was good and bad music in every decade, in every year. Most people's "favourite decade" (not just including music) will be governed by their age and what they were up to at the time.

People like the music they like and tend to defend/praise the era that represented their teens and early twenties.
Its not just the music, its the association with the exciting times of youth etc which makes the music so nostalgic.
Thats what I think anyway.
If you read some of the lyrics, like Mr I says, it makes you cringe...........but it didn't at the time.......which is the important bit.
Perfect example is Cliff bloody Richard..................he can still pack em in............something which has never failed to amaze me.
I have never bought any of his stuff and only saw one film.....The Young Ones........and that was only because I thought there might be some reward at the end of it. :coool:

In case anyone asks.............there wasn't. sadx

After Mr I's post I thought I'd look up a song list to test his theory. I thought I'd list 10 that I thought passed the test of a good song...only needed to get to the very beginning of the D.s
A Day in the Life
All I've got to do
And I love her
And your bird can sing
Anna
Another Girl
Baby, it's you
Carry that weight
Come together
Devil in her heart.

Opinions, eh?

My favourites include:
Hey Jude
For no-one
Girl
Norweigian Wood
Got to get you into my life
etc etc etc

"For No One" must be one of my favourite songs by any artist.

For those who dont know it, it goes "For no one yeah yeah yeah, For no one yeah yeah yeah".

If you really want some appallingly bad lyrics, the seventies must take the prize with the revered Lynyrd Skynyrd. "You said bad things about Alabama. Here's what we have to say in our defence - well, we can't cuz we're not very good with words so just fook you, right?" (that was one of their more intellectual songs).

Anyway, I never said 60s music was the nads; just that 90s music was a joke. Every other decade holds up well. I love what's happening in whatever we call this decade ... the teenies?

Most of the early Beatles songs were very simply, but given the fact a song like 'i'll follow the sun' was composed when Paul Mc was fifteen and there were no 'yeah, yeahs'in that

A lot of the songs were written in less then a day

Please, Please me was recored in a day

My Faves are:

Twist & Shout
Please, Please me
The Honeymoon song
Devil in her heart
Hold me tight
No Reply
Tell Me What You See
I've Just Seen a Face
I'm Looking Through You
In My Life
Here, There and Everywhere
Lovley Rita
She's leaving home
Penny Lane
And the list could go on, I love the Beatles me, like

Theres the problem you see, most of these lists of your what you see as classics are, to me, the embodiment of the shite that was the Beatles.

I fooking hate them me like. Give me Lynyrd Skynyrd in preference anytime.

Luckily Lynyrd Skynyrd didn't write as many songs as the Beatles. Or at least if they did, thankfully nobody ever plays the other 202.
Skynyrd are to cover bands what Robbie Williams is to karaoke. But don't get me wrong; they don't have a monopoly.
