I've been studying the alternatives for the oh so confusing draw for the remainder of the world cup. My prediction of an England v Spain final is impossible, therefore my adjusted predictions for the semi finals are as follows:

Uruguay v Holland
Spain v England

Yes Uruguay may look like a surpise but their draw means they will play South Korea next followed by USA or Ghana in the quarters. I also think that after beating Mexico, Brazil will come unstuck against the Dutch.

Brazil were hardly world beaters last night when they had to play their first good team - a European team incidentally. Other than that they've played the Ivory Coast and N Korea. I'm not sure how you can make a serious judgement on those games.

The Argies have looked like what they are, a good attacking team but lacking a defence. But similarly to Brazil they've played no one of note yet. S Korea, Nigeria and Greece. Lets see how they do against a recognised top 8 team.

England haven't looked great either but have only conceded one goal and that was a daft goalkeeping error.

Argentina have also only conceded just once and that goal, like USA's against England, was down to one individual mistake. Anyway, in the interests of balance, I guess it's fair to say that England have looked like a good defensive team but lacking an attack?

Thats fair comment. I guess that I'd prefer to be in England's situation rather than the Argies. We have an attack that hasn't clicked yet whereas they don't have a defence that they can pull out of the hat. The positive is that up to now England have played without the real Wayne Rooney. Whether he catches fire or not is possibly the difference between England being successful or not.

The Argies are definitely there for the taking from what I've seen, defensively they've not had anyone have a go at them yet and this is when they will crumble. Greece played one upfront for example and Samaras still managed to cause them no end of problems and should have scored.

I don't know what chip was watching to suggest Spain were 'lucky' to get past Chile. Spain were always in control as soon as they went 1-0 up and if they had really needed to they could have stepped it up even further.

It's still very open and I think if we play we the same desire we did on Wednesday then we'll cause teams problems. Rooney has to find his shooting boots/head though. Messi hasn't scored yet but the Argies have still knocked in 7 goals, we've scored 2.

We'll do alright against the Argies, I know from personal experience that they struggle to hold on to a lead against English opposition.

Dear Mr Fireball,

I read your recent post with interest however I find it factually ridiculous and the overall argument lacking in substance. Whilst I would like to spend time correcting your assertions I am going out tonight and have to get ready. In the meantime please feel free to dream up more spurious theories.

when was the last time a european team won the world cup when it was played outside of europe ?

the european teams ( bar holland ) have looked very average, the lowest number have qualified from the group stages since the new set-up in 86, but you reckon 3 of them will make the last 4 ?

and argentina and brazil wont.

spain were lucky to get past a chile side that had little to play for last night.

everyone knows which part of the world has the best teams at the moment , and it aint europe.

Chile had little to play for? apart from the fact that if switzerland won and they got beat they would be going home? when chile were 2-0 down it took a switzerland goal for them to be exiting at the group stage.

I'm starting to believe chip and Mr I haven't watched a game between them this World Cup. If neither of them have a tele they should feel free to pop round to mine. Both are welcome if they fancy it and can't get to the box.

Argentina have apparently battered this opposition so far, they certainly didn't batter Nigeria 1-0 and it took them 75 mins to score against a woeful Greece team that played one upfront.

As for this 'virtual bye' to the Semis, I think this confirms that Mr Fireball hasn't watched any of Uruguay or Ghana's games so far.

Which bookies is this?

Everyone I can see make England and Holland with lesser odds than Uruguay despite both having an extra game to play.

chile played almost the entire game with 10 men. if that was a sending off then there should have been 100 of them this world cup.

to suggest brazil have beaten nobody simply confirms the posters total lack of knowledge. unlike the european teams who effectively qualify by beating shyte like the faroe islands and lietchenstein, brazil play 18 qualifying games, a lot of them against proper teams, and their european players fly halfway across the world for every game. check the results of those 18 games and tell me they have beaten nobody. i think what you meant is that brazil lose a game approxiamtely once every 2 years. irrespective of who they play.

argentina havent played much in the way of quality opposition, but they battered them, even when playing their reserves. england on the other hand couldnt beat the usa or algeria. or even look like beating them. they had a virtual bye to the semis and fked it up.

we have a bunker fantasy league. im suprised you didnt enter it mr i. i reckon you would be bottom.

Colombia, Ecuador, Venezuela, Peru & Bolivia are certainly football powerhouses, Mr Chap

How have you got three argie players in your team or can you do this now at the second stage?

Three from each team for the last 16 and quarters, and up to four for semis and finals.

Just because Germany stuffed England doesn't make them particularly good. The Argies will see them off then get beat off Spain.

Holland will beat Uruguay comfortably.

Final Holland 1 Spain 3

My WC bets are as follows

Single To Win P Crouch (England) @ 50/1 Top Goalscorer Pending £1.00
World Cup 2010 Top Goalscore D Villa (Spain) @ 8/1 £5.00

I'll be rich I tell ye, RICH "
