Rumoured to be on trial.

Spent last season playing for Shrewsbury aged 33. He's not exactly in his prime

Just my opinion but, should we not be looking at players who played at a higher level than league 2 last season, especially at his age, younger yes I can see the point. Allegedly in talks with Workington, prior to be given a trial by Pools.

Surely a signing like that wont "whet" the fans appetites.

It's only a trial, I would be surprised if it came to anything.

Yeah but so did Freddy and at MK Dons last season then Tubby never picked him again, hopefully the new coach will give people a go.

i didnt say the 2 foreign lads are any good by the way, simply that they are impressing people who make decisions.

to be honest, i would probably impress in a trial. the down side with me is that im lazy, have an attitude problem, and would fail any random drugs test.

and i have an eye for the ladies.
Alright Boydy, didn't realise it was you!

Never heard of him according to wikipedia he is an attacking midfielder used to play for gretna and hibs.

From what I can gather, he was excellent at gretna, then suffered a knee injury and they released him as they couldn't afford his rehab. Hibs signed him but he never quite got back to his best. Wadsworth signed him for Chester but he had a relapse of the same knee injury and was released.

In short, good player with a dodge knee.

Sounds decent. If we could get him on a 'pay as you play' type contract then get him signed.

So who has the dodgy knee? The 33 year old from Shrewsbury?

Neither was John MacPhail, Bob. Nearly 35 when he made his debut. We got four good seasons and nearly 200 games out of him, and he was the business.

Fair point but didnt we get Monty from Sunderland. A 'reject' from a decent side in a higher division is far more appealing that a player from Shrewsbury. Im not saying he isnt any good as I know nothing about him but who would we rather be signing players from??

ps, I dont think John Macphail gets half as much credit as he should for his time here - one of the best free signings I have seen at Pools. Pity the management years sort of tarnished things.

Dodgepots- Murray has been around for ages.
He played against us for Carlilse I think around '93-94 & spent several years at QPR & Oldham.

He must have in excess of 300 league games under his belt by now.

He's a decent player but has knackered knees these days- don't we all.

Probably a steadying influence in the middle of the park & perhaps better than we've got at the moment but not by much.

If he signs & stays fit we'll be lucky to get 30 games out of him.

Decent pro but I think there's better around.

May as well just stick with Ritchie!

He’s been all over with Wadsworth, he could be just doing him a favour letting him train with us to keep his levels of fitness at normal pre season level so if someone does come in he’s a better proposition.

I don’t think a 33 year old would want to be flogging his puddings out on trial trying to prove himself to someone who knows him inside out already.

He lives in the lower league journeyman mobile. Drew Broughton drives.

It's been a lonely year since that scab Larkin got a proper contract......

Paul Murray gets in my Latics team of the decade (2000-2009), a class , influential midfielder with an eye for goal and I was gutted to see him leave. However that was 7 years ago, we had him back on trial in 2008 after he left Gretna and apparently looked the shell of the player he was (kind of explains why he was at Gretna then went to Shrewsbury) I guess age and the injuries have really took their toll but we got shot of him in a week when we had him on trial. The Paul Murray from 2002 that played for us could play in any League One team and several Championship teams he was a top, top player for this level, and if he was anything like the player he was, fuck Ritchie Jones, we'd have signed Muzza up in a flash

All in all, if you do sign him I'd wish him the best and would love to see him roll back the years, but with the injuries he's sustained and from what I've heard from people who've seen him play recently, I really doubt he can. By all accounts is appears he is well and truly over the hill.

So two Ritchie Humphreys in midfield then. That'll be good, it'll be like Spain in full flow.
