I would assume that there might be some negative comments on this signing "Why from a non league club" etc etc

Would like to be wrong though

I have it on good authority from my mate who plays for Brandon United in the same league, That Mackay is a pacy forward with a good eye for goal

He's worth a chance, I would assume that we've possibly signed him till the summer then a look to sign him on to a new contract after depending on how well he does

Unfortunatley I would think this means theres no "Emergency Loan" deal for Duffy on the cards.. Hope I'm wrong though!

We signed Steve Howard from Tow Law Town and he didn't turn out too badly. I can't imagine we'll be paying Mackay a great deal. There's no harm in having a look.

Oh, and Consett will still be OK. Andy Appleby and Steve Istead have both scored for them in the last week

It's always worth a punt, that player getting a few for Reading was signed from an Irish non league outfit and didnt Freddy Eastwood start in non league footy?

I echo the sentiments, his goal record makes him worth an extended look (which is what this will be at first I guess) and then we see how it goes from there. I expect a number of Loids to be rubbishing him as I type on the grounds he played for their reserves the other week, but this looks like a move with an eye on how he may develop rather than putting him straight into the team and it's hardly a major deal for us. I expect a few reserve outings and once he's fitter maybe the odd bench spot, and then let's see how he shapes up.....

the club are real canny with the pennies eh!......

get rid of players then sign others with the same intials so that they can use all the left over kit / training tops.......

bet MM was dead chuffed when they handed him all MM's left over stuff (to wash)

I don't know how many cup goals there are in Mackay's 43 but I do know that in the league the WHOLE TEAM has only scored 53 in 24 matches.
It sounds like Mackay has been pretty much carrying them on his back unless he's had an avalanche of goals in cup games against teams like Reg's Hardware Rangers or the Penshaw Bulldog and Wasp.

I'm not sure, but most of the opposition seem to be a similar standard to those he would play in the northern league.

Agreed, which is very encouraging!
