Well I've just caught the winner giving her end of contest encore and if that was the best effort available you deserve an award for sitting through the rest of it.

I watched it last night with a group of University students. Seminar rooms and lecture theatres are allowed to be used for society functions here, so they had the television feed in a lecture theatre on.

I had actually put a bet on at the bookies for Germany to win about a couple of months ago, when Lena's entry went to No.1 and went gold in Germany, but by then the odds on her victory had shortened so much, the bet became worthless.

This Contest was pretty much decided before last night. The winner was the most popular song in the end. It is more than a worthy Eurovision winner and she is quite the quirky, charming singer actually. I'd like to see her try to promote herself on an international scale now that she's won.

It was Germany's first win in 28 years last night....since when we hosted it in Harrogate in 1982. It's pretty much hard to think that Eurovision was hosted there given how much its grown now.

I think last night's win combined win Norway's yesterday suggests to me that since the introduction of the 50/50 jury-public vote that the argument that cultural voting helps to win Eurovision is over. I don't think the entries of the Eastern European countries last year and this year were as a whole that good. As a result of this, I think that because of that and the new system, domination of the Contest is now swinging back to Western Europe as a whole.

I believe that can still win this contest....we just have to modernise our attitude towards this contest, think modern Eurovision and not old Eurovision, find an excellent modern song from an excellent modern British songwriter and an excellent modern British singer.

If Germany and Norway can win, then the United Kingdom can win. FACT.

Well done to Josh for last night. We have to be grateful for the fact that we did not get "nul points". We have to be grateful for small mercies I guess.

Last night's result for us was disappointing. We did not send the best singer from our national final. She made a horrendous mistake which meant we didn't vote to send her to Oslo. The song as well was a bit disappointing as well. We need to move forward, not back.

After seeing the votes last night, I think that the public and the juries don't like to see entries go back to the past and try to copy other winning songs from the 90s i.e. Niamh Kavanagh's Irish entry was brilliant but it could have looked like it was a big rip off of earlier songs.

My pick from last night:
Belgium - wonderfully lit stage, great song.
Ireland - wonderfully lit stage, great stirring ballad.
Moldova - the saxophone player was brilliant!!!
Serbia - charismatic lad with a brilliantly daft haircut.
Romania - charismatic singers
Armenia - stunningly attractive singer, good song.
Portugal - great singer.

Yes, last night's result was disappointing, but we need not be despondent. Contrary to poular belief, the sun did indeed rise this morning. The day will come when the United Kingdom wins the Eurovision Song Contest again.

In the words of all those Fulham fans in the Europa League semi-finals:

QUE SERA, SERA
WHATEVER WILL BE, WILL BE
WE'RE GOING TO GERMANY!
QUE SERA, SERA!

Yeah, I think its difficult because when you realise that you've won, you think "What do I do now?".

I can't remember whether every winner has been allowed to speak when they receive the trophy. Of course, it's hard for you to know what exactly should you do.

Would it for example tempt fate to prepare a few words before hand in case you are declared the winner?

The Norweigian presenter interviewed Lena half-way through the announcing of the votes and the words that she said at that time suggested that she thought she was home and dry.

But, of course, he had to speak to her and say more or less "Well, let's just see what the results are from the countries before you say anymore."

Or do you let the great moment take its natural course and let your words come straight from your heart.

I liked Norways, Denmarks, Moldovas and am ashamed to say Frances.

Backed them all ew so got a bit back from Denmark. Had hopes up for Moldova at 200/1 when they got 10 points off first judge but then noticed it was from Romania :(

I thought Frances song was catchy as hell.

At first, when I heard the French entry I thought it was a bit hurried and even with my best French couldn't understand a single thing Jessy Matador was singing about. I'm going to have to listen to the songs I did like on YouTube again.

When we were watching in the lecture theatre, I thought it was a bit rubbish to be honest and I couldn't understand why there were two girls sitting in my row of seats literally dancing to the song.

But the French got a very good result for once last night. Apart from Sebastian Tellier in 2008, like us, they hadn't entered any good song. It was chosen by France 2, so maybe it shows the French want to try and take it seriously for once. That can only be a good thing, trust me.

Germany only won because

a) it had been a hit in 21 countries before the competition
b) Germany are the engine of the european economy and will eventually have to lend money to most of the other failing economies
c) if it was a draw they'd of own on penners
d) she sounded like Lilly Allen
e) most voters wanted to shag her even the gay blokes

I don't know why they don't just dispense with the songs and have a national insult contest instead

We're you watching the same song as me, Mr. Mutley?

I don't think she's a German Lily Allen at all. I think she's just Lena and hopefully, I think she might just be a big international star.

The song she entered with was NOT your typical Eurovision winner. People mentioned throughout the Contest on the BBC that she might be just the quirky star that Eurovision has been looking for.

If you listen to her speak and sing in English, you notice that she speaks English with a very broad, thick German accent.

With her being German I thought she'd have had more of a Croat tone to her voice.

I remember the good old days where countries voted for the best song...not the political voting debacle that is now.
(Malta giving the UK maximum points and vice versa was acceptable though)
