Yep, a right pisser for all concerned no doubt.

I know several people who work(ed) there and only hope that they and everybody else effected can sort out something new sooner rather than later.

Yep, I was wondering about whether or not they've already cashed up for that or if they've just promised the money to the council as I can't see the administrators writing that cheque if it's still pending.

To be honest though that's probably the least of the redundant worker's worries.

PS. The Tall Ships thing is this year.

I've had a great idea for a sitcom.

It's set in a rundown boarding house/bedsit run by a scruff of a landlord

A black person may be one of the residents

I'm thinking of calling it Dry Rot

I also had a mate who has had a few scripts accepted by Hatrick, might send it to him first

It's sad that people have lost their jobs but why are so many directing their anger at the business owner? Garlands have employed people in Hartlepool for over ten years according to the local rag they have lost vital contracts for customer service work. What do you expect Chey Garland to do?

Give their staff more then two hours notice?

They have known about the contract situation for ages, things like do not happen overnight

How old is the bint Garland like?

Generally, and not specifically in this case, whenever a company like this goes pop it always makes me wonder if the owner has had enough and took the money out of the business in order to let it go bust without them losing their own personal money that they've syphoned off out of the company accounts so that they can just either retire or set up again under a different name with no regards to the staff who they're screwing.

That made me laugh my tits off when I worked there in between Uni courses. A bucket came round at Christmas, I asked
"whats this for?"
Collection for Chey Christmas box are you going to put money in?
"Am I balls, how stupid are all of you?"
"Its becasue of her you have a job"
"and its because of people like me she lives in a big house and scams about 4-6k off everyone working here"

The people putting money in were idiots and Chey looks like Jabba the Hut

This link may help explain the situation. I don't think any business could lose 3 major contracts and survive. No doubt these huge companies are outsourcing to India.

http://www.contact-centres.com/new.0510.garlands.call.centres.administration.htm

Good luck to all those affected.

The contracts wouldn't have pulled out if Garlands were hitting the targets negotiated in the first place. You only have to look at how many they've had over the years to see that they were perhaps putting a bit too much effort into winning the contracts then forgetting that the figures they promised would never be attainable. I worked there about 10 years ago and the contract we were on was lost, we were taking back to back calls, all day every day and still the queues were 50+ at any given point.

bit of a piss take when only a few years ago, she was feted as a superb business woman by the fail amongst others. i'm fairly sure that longevity and a fallback plan/contingency budget should be parts of a successful entrepreneur's 'skill set'.

yet another kick in the balls to the local economy. wonder how ian wright will try to cash in on this human tragedy, the little c_unt.

Trouble is these awards generally go to those who make big money in short spaces of time, arent they clever etc etc. The steady as you go business owners get little or no recognition and usually suffer because of the get rich quick types.

there was a rumour she is starting up again later this year.

not all bad news tho. cable and wireless have offered some people work in london for 2 months. travel and accomodation paid for, and better money.

That goes to show that companies do care about their 'outsourced' staff contrary to belief.
Good on C&W for doing that. You would expect the staff that have been given the opportunity to grab it with both hands and attempt to make it a permanent job.

Good Luck with it.

Thats nothing to do with 'care'.

Yesterday C&W suddenly found themselves in a bit of a fix so they have poached some garlands staff for a couple of months while they set up a contract with a new supplier. They obviously reckon this will take a couple of months, hence the short term contract. The ex Garlands people should be driving a very hard bargain for their services.

I wasn't questioning that it was a good offer just that C&W were doing it out of the goodness of their hearts.

When I say once, I mean three months, in St Pauls in London

Paid well, nice view

Dunno about the hospital, but why would any local MP, regardless of their party, give assurances over a private company?

Garland and Garland alone are to blame for this

I doubt many at director level are down the job shop right this moment

Isn't that what limited liability is all about?

The way things have been handled is massively shit but I don't see why people are directing their hate at a woman who has provided employment for many people in this town for a long time. I know it is a massive blow for the town but would others be prepared to lose all they have worked for by plunging money ito a business that has became non cost effective...?

It is indeed, but it isn't always right

Darlow had limited liability, how many people did they fuck over?
And there is a difference in a business being non cost effective and not making the packet the shareholders require

Sainsburys for example outsource their warehouse staff or put them on piecemeal contracts rather then paying for a 7.5 hour day
They still make 350million profit per yer, but this isn't enough for some directors and shareholders, so the cuts go on and on
The same happens at British Gas, Tesco and British Telecom, I know, I've worked for them all

Corporate greed knows no bounds

At our work they are sending stuff abroad all the time, not the face to face or on the phone stuff, as they know people wouldnt like that (not that they can go elsewhere like, being a water company) but all the back office and admin work.

They keep calling it offshore, sending all this work offshore and all that crap, i imagine it being some big oil rig in the middle of the ocean dealing with mrs peters water bill, just a cute buzzword for sending the shit to india cos it saves em money.

According to the snail: After hearing of the Garlands closures this week, Darlington-based firm Infoserve has organised an open day for redundant staff which could see people back in work within a fortnight

I work in Darlo, right near infoserve. It's a bit of a twat to get to if you don't drive to be honest, not far from the loids ground.

As compo has said though, people need this so it may be a lifeline as we all know it's easier to find another job while you have one.
