No idea mate, sorry.

But I thought that the education system was so good under this Labour Government that this kind of thing wasn't needed anymore?

I had a private tutor for English when I was at GCSE as I am dyslexic and was quoted a E in my mocks after tuition I ended up with a B. I went to that wierd house opposite the White House pub, cant remember the name of the person I went to see like an old women that lived there.

One suggestion I would consider is finding a bright 16 to 18 year old. They have the advantage of just having gone through it and your child is less liable to be overawed by them. It does work.
Check with the school/ local 6th form college to see if they can recommend someone.

Don't worry Ripper, your young'un will find out just how little the Tories care about public education

It ain't perfect right now, but it is a MILLION miles away from what went on under the Mrs T & her pals

Really?

I beg to differ and I think you're wrong again.

But we've had this discussion about literacy and numeracy capabilities and exam marking before so I can't be chewed going through it all again.

Some kids will always be left behind and I agree any fucker can get into Uni these days, but the schools are better, just look around this town and compare the the likes of St Hilds to the school it replaced

I hate the agrument anyone can get into Uni, the exams are getting easier blah, blah, blah This type of talk devalues the achievements kids and graduates have done and usually come from people who know nothing about the education system and if they took any of the exams they would fail.

I am proud of my educational achievements and just because I got them in the 90's and 2000's are not any less than if I got them between the years of 1900-1980

POK defeats any argument you can give I'm afraid.....

Perhaps I should of said it appears easier to get into Uni then ever before

When I left School in 1986 I doubt less then 10% of kids went onto Uni

I partly agree with you.

Achieving results at Uni in a proper subject (not Media Studies, Sociology, What Mickey Mouse's Favourite Food Is etc), especially a post-grad, is not only difficult but commendable for anybody whenever they do it.

The problems are at a younger age, especially GCSE level, where kids are allowed to spell things wrong and given marks for wrong answers if the teacher thinks they know what they meant or show their working out. Moving the goalposts on the grades was also a symptom of the "must show improvement by better marks" philosophy of the current Government.

Was that due to the fact that the exams were harder or the fact people couldnt afford it?

If it applies to you it was genuinely meant to be.
