Well done all concerned again!! We dealt with Colchester aerial bombardment well and got our rewards. Second half they were on top and we had our backs against the wall but we played it out well.

Mcsweeney once again outstanding (although Chip will no doubt think he was shite again) and set up the first and won penalty for 3rd. O Donovan a pure predator in front of goal, first one was sublime. Humphreys another great game, Brown getting better and Flinders made some good saves although stood in no mans land for their goal.

Colchester nothing special on that viewing.

Oh and nice to see the tombola is back in hospitality, motm given to Gamble this time

Leon McSweeney was MOTM without doubt, great engine and great crosses, thought Gamble struggled and was tired throughout the 2nd half.
Once again Sir Richard was outstanding, both in his workrate and in his motivation, well done son !!!

Why Turner was so impressed with Colchester that he changed our way of playing I'll never know.

We did very well under his first spell playing without a target man and we have done very well today without having to knock balls up to a target man. I know which way of playing I'd rather watch and it wouldn't be pumping high balls into Platt at every opportunity.

enjoyed todays game much better than the brighton one, you could actually see our game plan today.

McSweeney was top draw, always running at them.

Brown looked canny too.

I can see why monkhouse gets peoples backs up sometimes, he went missing in the second half, didnt seem bothered.

Humphreys n Gamble were top notch in the middle.

I don't agree with you about Monkhouse there. I thought he was superb today. Won pretty much every header he went up for and worked his socks off.

It was an excellent win and thouroughly satisfiying and refreshing to see us bounce back so strongly having handed Colchester the lead on a plate. It really was an atrocious goal to conceed and people could have been forgiven for thinking that heads would go down.

But what happened, of course, was something very different. Superb equalising goal, excellent second from O'Donovan (his touch and turn were both very impressive) and at last a penalty at home in which the ref had no choice but to give it.

I thought Gamble was poor during the second half and Turner waited far too long to make changes to the midfield during the second half. It is one of my constant criticisms of Turner that he allows games to drift and, whilst being in the lead makes it slightly more acceptable, Colchester were well on top for a goo deal of the second half and Turner should have acted sooner to freshen things up.

All in all a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon. Three more points and three more goals.

P.S did anyone else think that their number 4 was possibly the worst opposing full back they have seen all season? I thought he was utter pap.

was there only me who thought the foul for the penalty actually happened just outside the box?

he is a good player and 11 from a left midfielder is a brilliant return, he started ok i just thought he was a bit quiet second half.

He looks a mood player, he's always doing daft little pushes and niggles once the ball has gone too.

It looked inside from where I was (albeit that is on the halfway line!) and there didn't seem to be much protest from the Colchester team. More a reluctant agreeance that it was as stonewall as they come.

Yubep, I agree with you re Monkhouse being a mood player. However even when he is in one I think he's easily one of, if not the most, skillful player in the team. I thought the midfield was a little overrun in the second half (see my earlier comments) so the lack of ball probably got to him. I still think he seemed up for it though

Yes.

Was an anxious wait for Mcsweeney though, either penalty or second yellow depending on how ref saw it and he took an age to decide!!

I thought Collins was a bit hit and miss too. He made some very telling contributions and got involved in some very tight situations.

But infuriatingly he also messes up relatively simple scenarios. A good example was when he assumed the ball was going out of play in the second half, didn't notice the Colchester player coming up behind him, and the resulting concession of the ball could easily have resulted in a goal. As it happened it resulted in a free kick that Prutton hammered over the bar. It's not the first time this has happened with him this season. The game v Bristol Rovers at home being a good example.

But still, a cracking win today.

I had it in my head that it was Liddle who had messed up there for some reason :uhoh:

Not sure why as its not as if they look the same!

But yes that was horrendous.

It was a good enjoyable game for a change. At half time you were actually looking forward to the second half kicking off. Like old times.

I thought most of the team played well although the scoreline flattered us a bit. Colchester barely let us out of our half in the second half although as was said above they didnt actually create that much. Our defence gave their all and chased every ball.

I thought McSweeney was outstanding. That lad cant half cross a ball!! It was like having Paul Smith back! Gamble was disapointing, how on earth he could get motm I have no idea, way too many misplaced passes. Humphreys however impressed again, credit to him. I thought Monky had an off day.

We actually looked like we had balance upfront, Monky on one side and Mcsweeney on the other with the pace of O Donovan in the centre - we actually had some flair and creativity.

Defensively I thought we were poor in the first half, Collins and Hartley especially, although hartley did well after the break.

The effort was there for all to see and there was some atmosphere which just made the game enjoyable.

Get a decent manager in next season and sign up O Donovan (who is getting better game by game and we wont be far off being a decent side.

ps, I dont really beleive we will be lucky enough to get O Donovan but i can hope!

Chip, you described Mcseeney as a "headless chicken" after tuesdays performance. I thought he played quite well, as he did today.
