I really don't think they want us to go down, otherwise why bring in 12 new players in the summer, Gamble in January and O'Donovan? Not the actions of a board seeking relegation. Why on earth would the board and owners want to cheapen their investment it would be like keying your brand new Aston Martin or or taking the roof of your new house. These peope are astute business men not morons. Conspiracy theories are not helpful or i'm sure acurate.

I don't think they want us to go do I just think that they have lost the plot a bit. May be concentrating too much on non-football things, i.e the ground purchase. May be they should concentrate on getting things right on the pitch and the rest will follow. They could start tomorrow with a new manager.

so they sign 14 players, then pay them all 20% less.

Why not just sign 4 players? they would have saved a fortune.

These conspiracy theories get shitter and shitter

only problem with this conspiracy theory is that it relies on the players being thick enough to deliberately play shyte so as to earn 20% less next year.

Ah, a flaw in the plan. How can anyone believe this bollocks. sctatchinghead
Maybe a few of the clubs down the bottom really want to be relegated as well. banghead
If IOR want relegation just play Liddle against Stockport tomorrow night then problem solved.

P.S. Chip, thought thickett was a bit tame, surely one of your better words would have been more to the point.

this is the same bollocks my uncle comes up with when talking about the old "greatest team Pools had"(in his opinion) with watty moore and leo harding etc, he recons the powers at be never let Pools get Promoted and play well as they couldnt afford it stpid

It's Leo Harden.
At the time in question there was uproar amongst the faithful that Pools were against going up. It certainly had some credence to it but personally I doubt if the rumour was genuine.
But funnily enough the argument was that a successful team in three north would attract better crowds than a struggling team in div two. ( now called the championship)
Pretty much the same argument as today.

There was a maximum wage in operation in the old days, so it really didn't matter who you played for or where you played, which is why teams hung on to their stars a bit more.
It was very difficult to convince the wife that you should up sticks and move to the other end of the country, away from her family and friends, for no extra gain.
Although "boot money" existed.
Sunderland, known as the bank of England club, were fined for overpaying players and their chairman, Ted Ditchburn, was banned sine die.
Different times.

Sounds like the same theories we had in 96 & 2000 when we had teams that were more than good enough to go up automatically and ended up going through the more lucrative route of the play offs because the then chairmen didnt want the expense of extra wages without the bonus of a Wembley appearance.
