I really don't think they want us to go down, otherwise why bring in 12 new players in the summer, Gamble in January and O'Donovan? Not the actions of a board seeking relegation. Why on earth would the board and owners want to cheapen their investment it would be like keying your brand new Aston Martin or or taking the roof of your new house. I don't think they want us to go do I just think that they have lost the plot a bit. May be concentrating too much on non-football things, i.e the ground purchase. May be they should concentrate on getting things right on the pitch and the rest will follow. They could start tomorrow with a new manager.

At the time in question there was uproar amongst the faithful that Pools were against going up. It certainly had some credence to it but personally I doubt if the rumour was genuine.
But funnily enough the argument was that a successful team in three north would attract better crowds than a struggling team in div two. ( now called the championship)
Pretty much the same argument as today.

There was a maximum wage in operation in the old days, so it really didn't matter who you played for or where you played, which is why teams hung on to their stars a bit more.
