But my original point still stands: Ricky Martin was never a gay icon when he first became famous and just because he has announced he has gay, he hasn't become one now.

Explain to me what a Gay Icon is?

As I said, David Beckham is a gay icon, Kylie is a gay icon. Neither of them to my knowledge has ever took it up the wrong 'un (hopefully Kylie has tried it) or munched carpet (I doubt that stuck up cow would let him, again though hopefully Kylie has tried it) but you get what I'm saying.

A gay icon is someone who has a lot of gay fans.

Well, I think people tend to asociate themselves with the kind of music they grew up with as a child etc.

Whether you like it or not, at the time, that was the kind of music that I was growing up with.
