There was a bit of a draft in the place, and the food came out cold.

Not bad without being great. Certainly not cheap either, for what they charge you'd be better off at somwhere like Farrar's.

If you want pub food then The Smith's at Greatham is always excellent and people have told me that The White Hart is good too although not tried it myself.

I have unfortunately been back since the incident with the rarfy hairy Scottish witch and the shite food, it was a family thing and out of my control.

It was still shit, anybody choosing to eat there deserves a special kind of food poisoning that causes their cock to fall off.

Went there last night (Windmill) done out nice since I was last in. Food was nice, Strongarm and Ruby Red which I love, but not big portions. Service excellent, though there were few in. As stated not as good as the Top House (White Hart), but a lot better than the Raby which is worth a miss.

Totally agree, I went there a couple of months ago, now food recommendations arnt that great from me because I will eat anything and never say anything was horrible, just "well i wasnt keen on that but I ate it". However the food in the Raby Arms is in a new world of shocking, my dad who is a picky eater had one bite sent it back and it was still crap. At this point i was struggling to eat half my plate as it was that bad.

Never go there!

Edit: Go to Matteos along Seaton front, used to be krimos, its well nice and not that pricey

For a quality meal try "A place to eat" at the R/H side of the Staincliffe (as you face it), this is independent of the Staincliffe and is really quite good.

For quantity and decent quality, try the Wok Inn "fill your boots" banquet.

For pub grub the White Hart I can recommend although it isn't big enough to just turn up and guarantee a table, the "Aldi Arms" isn't bad either.

I have never had a great meal at the Raby Arms, but never an inedible one either. I dislike the place as it doesn't seem to know what it wants to be a pub or restaurant. (I'm not keen on the management duo either)

The Spotted Cow in Elwick is also a decent place for pub grub

The Wellington at Wolviston does very good meals - and not pricey. They have differnt 'nights' - think Thursday is curry night. Quite busy usually - which is always a good sign.
