All this St.Patrick's Day bollox!!!! banghead banghead

You have people who are about as Irish as me 'celebrating' it or going on the piss and even....a week before asking....'What you doing for Paddy's Day'???? banghead rage banghead

But April 23rd you dare even mention St.George's Day and you are branded a brain dead racist little Englander by some!!!! banghead banghead banghead

And then people question why celebrate a Turkish bloke who never even set foot in England etc etc!!!!  (BTW....isn't St.Patrick English????)

So why the feck should I 'celebrate' St.Patrick's Day when I can't even 'celebrate' my Patron Saint's day?!?! sctatchinghead confised

Fecking Paddy's Day!!!!

rage

As Ive already said Mutt, its nowt to do with St Patrick,or Ireland or patriotism, its purely & simply the Guinness brewerys marketing folks doing a good job of convincing folks to get out & party.

As far as Im concerned though its our Mariannes birthday & thats cost me a dam sight more than any piss up.

It isn't even a national holiday. Wouldn't mind if we got the day off for it.

I'm tempted to reply but I'll only get the usual round of racist accusations. I will limit myself to saying I agree with Mutley.

Of course you can celebrate St George's Day (a bloody daft thing to celebrate, but any excuse for a pissup...). I've seen loads of pubs over the years doing St George's Day parties. St Patrick's Day is more high profile, but that's probably because we've imported the idea of a big celebration from across the pond. The Irish diaspora love their St Pat's parade and party, especially in the US

I agree....the last few years have seen an uprise in clebrations....and about time to!!!! :coool:

I am English, I am not a racist but would like to celebrate St George's day so why would that be viewed as racist. I think this is something 9one of the only things) the Yanks get right, they fly their flag and are a very proud (if not misguided) nation.

I'll just leave this here:

Sing a song of shamrocks!
Dance an Irish jig!
Pour yourself a hearty drink,
and take a healthy swig!
Tell a tale of leprechauns!
Drape urself in green,
'cause tomorrow when you wake up,
you're still governed by the Queen.

Nice new word for me there MJ, thanks for that. clappp

We've just got back in from celebrating St Patrick's day/Chris' birthday and having something to eat. The Smiths Arms in Billingham was suitably kitted out with Paddy decorations, we blagged a few hats, the Landlord (a Poolie) was certainly a reluctant participant, he was annoyed that he would not be supported by the owner/brewery to do the same on April 23rd for St Georges Day. Just resting for a while before we return for a Quiz Night!

If the government have their way then the only thing that will be celebrated in 10 years will be some sort of shitty euro day. Maybe pubs don't support St Georges day because there is a lack of interest from the public? Lets face it - most people don't even know when it is....
