Trying to get onto xbox live with a x-box just bought off a mate..

Heres the problem:

When checking network status, it says cant connect, so I clic test connection....

Then it goes to IP connection and says "failed" on the more info bit this is the info I get....

Your PPPoE settings were not validated by your ISP. Turn your console off and back on and try again.

This test verifies that your console has a valid IP address. If your console does not pass this test:

Confirm that there are no other devices on your network with the same Ip address.

If you are using a router or gateway, verify that it is configured to assign IP addresses to network devices (DHCP enabled)


I am using a router, and a ethernet cable.....

I am thinking this is something to do with the previous owners settings (although I am guessing)

X boxes are fine. They have their faults but for what they are they do the job. Mine was worth it for CODMOD2, fifa and forza 3 alone

I agree with grave, although I have a PS3 I don't buy into the console war rubbish. I've had both and preferred the PS3. Can't wait for Gran Turismo 5.

Anyway, not sure what your problem is poolielad, sounds like your router settings mind. Perhaps you have to assign an IP address manually from the router before it will recognise it?

Try resetting all your network settings to factory settings. its somewhere in the netwprk options.
