does anyone apart from public school kids like this sport, it been plastered over the BBC page today and I can honestly say the only bloke I have met who liked it was my mate Will at uni, but he was a proper toff who was brilliant at all the upper class games like Hokey, Cricket and Rugby.

I hated hockey at school, but I never thought of it as toff-ish exactly.
Also my dad played rugby and cricket before toffs were even invented!

I played it in the Army and I though it was alright. Otherwise it seemed to be a girls game.

If team GB won a gold medal in hockey, or any sport, or just anything, farting, wanking, tossing one off then high fiving your brother etc etc, he would fall over his bottom lip with excitement.

Didn't GB win a hockey gold in the Olympics in the late 80's or early 90's?

I played it for years. I started playing it in College then played for Seaton Carew who then moved bases to Park Drive and are now called Hartlepool Caladonians. It is a really good game to play and is actually a more dangerous sport than football. There is a lot more skill involved than people give it credit for

Now funnily enough, that's one sport that I've never liked that much. Although we were a grammar school, we didn't have the facilities to play and the nearest club was 20-25 minutes away. One of my old French teachers, she joined a local hockey Club and played tennis as well.

One of my classmates, Man City supporter, he used to play at a club when we were at school, I don't know whether he still plays now or what.

I can remember one time that a teacher attempted to start an indoor hockey club during lunchtime at school, but nobody turned up that day.

The thing with hockey is you need to have good weather for it, even though now the pitch is artificial and you need to have good control. If you don't, then there are problems.

Mind you, unless the BBC show major tournaments on the web, this country doesn't seem to show a lot of hockey on its sports channels, unless it's during the Olympics.

Yet, when you look at the range of football that's being shown on British TV:
World Cup
European Championships
Premier League
Football League
Carling Cup
FA Cup
JPT
Blue Square Premier - was shown before Setanta went bust.
Champions League
Europa League
La Liga / Copa del Rey
Ligue 1
Bundesliga
Copa Libertadores
African Cup of Nations
Serie A
Erdivisie
Portuguese Football
Schoolboy Football
Women's Football
etc.

She was a very lively woman, very bubbly actually, acted as if she was still in her early twenties when in fact she was in her late thirties/early forties as well.

She looked good for her age as well. She played the clarinet in an orchestra as well, if I recall.

No you don't, I have played when it has been pissing down with rain, in hailstones, when it is blowing a gale. the only time you can't play is when there has been a frost and the pitch is frozen and too dangerous

Did you ask her is she had a good set of lungs on her?

And did she like your woodwind?

There was a short fat physics teacher at Tunstall for a while reckoned he played as goaly for England. Tindle or Trundle or sommit, he tried to start an indoor hockey club for a while. it was quite fun - no where near as good as 'bag of worms' though.

He could move for a bloater though burst through the midfield and knocked me flying about 10 foot.

He also reckoned he was part of the team that invented digital watch technology cant see it though he was thick.

Ah! memories

We used to play a game in the back street when ar' was a youngin' very similar to hockey, using sticks and a ball. But as we never used to have a ball we just used to hit each other with the sticks.
It was very therapeutic.

Bag of Worms is basically a mass game of bagsy.

We used to play it in the sports hall with about 8 teams or so, each team had a gym bench as their goal and you had to score goals against the other teams to knock them out, all of this was played with about 6 balls
