Watching the Arsenal game but I read about this it's actor Larry Lamb who played Archie Mitchell in Eastenders and Mick in Gavin and Stacey.

Housing him in a street awaiting demolition and an uncanny ability to find shitty shots of the town i.e. the old trick of using a telephoto lens to make it look like the Redcar blast furnace was just behind the sand dunes during his walk along Seaton beach, must have reinforced a few negative opinions of the town.
The trouble with these programmes is that the people taking part know that in a few days time they'll be back in their comfortable life style and can't possibly empathise with someone who had fook all to look forward to and no future.

My sentiments exactly - like when politicians sleep rough for a night and become instant experts on homelessness, alcoholism, drug abuse, mental health, abuse etc. then go back to their several homes and screwing the system.

I'm not so sure, Mr S. I think it has broadened the outlook of some of the millionaires they've featured. And let's face it, any help these people give to a community centre or whatever, is better that the sweet FA that comes from the government.

I enjoy watching secret millionaire on channel 4, you can tell these people are totally and honestly humbled by the people they come across, they even donate money to the charities or good causes they work for (idea of the programme really)

I think I'd be more impressed if they donated the money without the TV appearance, secret or not....if you follow my reasoning.

I got that impression as well actually.

But, as someone has said, they deliberately show the town in the worst possible light - he was living in Carr Street which was/is due to be demolished as part of the regeneration but they didn't say that of course. They would rather give the impression that almost every house in the town has corrugated curtains instead...

(Spoiler Alert!)

He is actually, yeah.

I watched Episode One last night and the funniest moment was a shot of him reading the Hartlepool Mail and he was yawning because he was tired.

It's interesting because he said at the start that it could be possible to stretch a small amount of benefit over the week, even though the experts had a go at him for it and he was also more careful with his money than one of the other celebrities. And he shopped for the cheapest deals as well.

28p for a box of tea bags at ASDA in Hartlepool etc.

Also, why couldn't the researcher find out the correct pronounciation of Hartlepool (the narrator said Hart-LE-pool, when I've lived down here for 20 years and even I know it's Hart-LEE-pool.....or even 'Art-LEE-pool).

When was Seaton Carew called "Hartlepool Beach"? Terrible researching here.

They said "He's going for a walk to Hartlepool Beach" .

I thought, "Hartlepool Beach? There's no such thing called Hartlepool Beach."

So they showed a shot of him walking along the beach with the houses in the background, and I thought "That looks like Seaton Carew to me."
