I've seen two letters from a Rachel MacGregor from Hartlepool in Cleveland in the press recently - one in the Daily Mirror Letters page and one in What's on TV about Dancing on Ice.

Does anybody on here know anyone of that name? sctatchinghead

West Hartlepool, maybe.

That's what it said in the Mirror: Rachel MacGregor, Hartlepool, Cleveland.

Mr POK, a lesson in local government boundaries. Cleveland County was strangled in 1996, it hasn't existed for 14 years, it wasn't mourned by anyone except the its own employess in the .town of Middlesbrough which by a quirk of geography was the main financial beneficiary.
Since 1996, Hartlepool has been a unitary authority and is in effect, responsible for all its own services. For cermonial purposes we are part of County Durham and come under the auspices of the Lord Lieutenant of County Durham for such events, as it did several hundred years before 1974 when Cleveland was formed.
The boundaries of County Durham and not Durham County Council (which can be confusing) are the land between the Tyne and Tees.
Right, back to the original topic, what persons life is so pathetic they can actually care to write a letter about something like that....? sctatchinghead
Mind you, I suppose the same thing could be said about us. sadx

Did anyone see David Dimbleby's "Seven ages of Britain" last night?
I mention it because he showed the first two globes ever made. They were made after Drake returned from the first circum-navigation of the world in about 1540. One showed the heavens and it's constellations the other showed the known world at the time. Australia wasn't even on it as it yet to be discovered. There were about 10 cities/towns in Britain written on it. Including "Hartlepoole". Just a minor observation I know. But it made my day.

BTW. Population of Middlesbough in 1854? 25!

Who'd have thought it, bunker regulars don't understand why women may use the title Ms. It's like feminism didn't happen here.

We're still not quite sure how PoolieChrissie and grabec managed to evade the checkpoints.
...because they smoke pipes and wear tweed.

That was Chrissie's idea. I didn't realise our disguise had been rumbled. It was Chrissie who planned the false identities, too. She is Mumtaz and I am Tree. :coool:

No, Sussex, I was just wondering whether anybody knew her, seeing as I found out she was from Hartlepool, as she's managed to get two letters of hers published in quick succession.

Some people just don't have that luck unfortunately.
