What sort of reception do we think he will get then?

It can't be worse than the reception he got when he played for the team.

I'd like to think a good one. The lad always gave his all, and never 'hid' during games, even when things weren't going for him.

He will be so desperate to prove the boo-boys wrong that I really do worry about him causing us problems. I hope Austin is back on form.

I must have been one of very few who actually rated the lad.
The team is screaming out for someone with pace like matty.
Il applaud him when he comes onto the pitch.
He always gave his all and it's the least he deserves.

Well said LT, matty was also not afraid to have a shot or two which is more than can be said for some players we have now...

Maybe we should all wear Bruce Forsyth style false chins for the match. And shout "good game, good game" when he soars down the wing.

I was disappointed when he left, as his pace was an asset, but I seem to remember reading some remarks he made to the Carlisle press about joining a much bigger club/crowds etc.

I always thought he was a good player, even if his crossing was a bit suspect, and its hardly surprising he's flourishing at a new club.

I read in the Observer last week that he was the key man in their 5-0 defeat of Frankenclub scoring a goal and basically running the show.

Agree fully. Always liked Matty and would much rather he was playing for us than against on Tuesday night.

He was the first name on the teamsheet last December time and keeping Monky out of the left wing spot with ease. He struggled against West Ham which affected his confidence and then that fat fcking prick in charge only started him 5 more times that season. stpid stpid stpid

He's clearly prospering from having an experience head like Harte behind him, not being abused by his own fans and confidence from some early season form. It wouldn't have been hard to have got a decent player out of Matty Robson but bad management and some idiot numbskull fans meant he never met his full potential.

Yes he put in some awful performances at times but he didn't deserve the stick he got, am sure Denis Behan would prosper from a player like him in the team much like Kevin Kyle enjoyed a handful of assists.

You can always tell times are bad when the praises of players of players who were not that good in a pools shirt start getting looked at through rose tinted glasses.

What a load of crap.

Everybody knows Robson's limitations as a footballer and he struggled massively with consistency, no-one has suggested he is a world beater in this thread...just that people liked him because of his work ethic.

It's got nothing to do with the times, I'd be saying this if we were 10 points clear at the top...it's to do with my admiration of a lad who received pathetic ridicule from a minority of brainless twats who thought they were clever to have a pop at a lad who clear suffers from confidence issues yet would occasionally turn in excellent performances.

There's a surprise..... you rate him and I don't. Your last sentence says it all and you miss the irony, any player suffering from 'confidence' issues and 'occasionally' turning in 'excellent' performances is going to have problems as a pro in football. Work ethic is only part of the make up of any pro, he was a player who didn't appear to know how to apply his skills properly and that was the reason he never did make it here.
Be it down to successive managers or coaches, he never achieved his potential and after a very generous spell at the club he left. Sadly, the club is not a rest home for 'nice lads' and if you don't produce the goods you will eventually be sent on your way. Speaking for myself I was not bothered, but that's my choice.
I don't abuse players as it's unproductive and pointless and to the best of my knowledge have never done so.
I hope that clears up a few points for you.

Can't remember our fans giving Robson significantly more grief than many other frustrating players who've graced the turf at The Vic.

He never fulfilled his potential here, that's all I'm bothered about. Was it down to the way he was used or his own sporadic output...? I will stand by my opinion that his perfomances up to his date of departure from the club never made me think his next destination would have been antything other than down a division at best and I was not at all perturbed by his leaving the club. If he's been better utilised or encouraged by Carlisle to perform more consistently, the question has to be asked what was going on with Pools training regime. ...? But I suspect that time will give us a better and truer picture of his capabilities.

He's a confidence player so I think he should get dogs abuse, give him shite if he comes near you.

I like Matty but I'd rather be nasty and win than be nice and lose at the moment. He was absoltely shite when we played at Carlisle earlier in the season, Austin played him easily the only difference was that the cross that normally ended up in Morrisons car park went in that night.

Abbott is getting nearly as much stick from Carlisle fans as Turner is from us the minute, they aren't very good getting to the final of the paint pot hasn't won them many league points lately, 1 win in 7 I believe.

When James Brown got injured last year Matty was the only spark of invention or anything above the ordinary in the side. For 5/6 games he was the best player in the side.

I lost count though of the times that he burned off/beat for skill the fullback, got clear , cut in and then fired six inches past the far post. If someone could have got him to shoot just six inches further to the right he 'd had ten goals last year.

On the Mill House terrace watching Matty play was soul destroying. If you are a proper winger your job is to beat the fullback and get in behind. A winger has to do that with skill and pace. A winger's touches have to be perfect - the full back only has to get any sort touch or block in as the winger goes past and he's lost the ball. Even the best winger loses the ball gambling and trying to beat the defender.

I swear that the MH terrace and seats couldn't wait for the first time Matty lost the ball for the abuse and derision to begin.

Matty was an utter confidence player and you could watch it drain out of him when these expert 'fans' were on his case. Another case of our twisted, negative fans driving away a potentially decent player in the same style as Howard and Easter. I wasn't even remotely surprised when Matty told the club he didn't want to stay playing in front of our 'fans'.

Interesting on here that this week we have seen such warm praise for one of my favourite players, Paul Baker. Either this board is made up of an unrepresententative clique of positive fans (seems unlikely) or people have forgotten the streams of Baker abuse that were regular from the MH during his first spell (Come on Pauline, Carthorse etc) and second spell ('You're finished Baker', 'He wants putting down').

Well, we managed a booking inside the 1st minute on Saturday.
So, given that the refereeing is shambolic these days, who shall we charge with getting YET another booking for twatting Robson? sctatchinghead

Big Sam would probably do the most damage. No doubt the ugly gunt will still score against us, like.

Oh I missed nothing, including the point. i never slagged the lad off and if you read my first post at the top of the page, you'd actually see i had a dig at his tormentors. I didn't rate him as a player but never abused him in any way on the pitch, as for his personality, I haven't a clue, he may well be a smashing lad, but I've never met him, I do my judging on what I see on the pitch.

Many people including myselves made comments that they liked Matty Robson, not because of his amazing football ability but because of other factors.

You then came on and gave it the whole 'rose tinted glasses' bollox.

That's when you missed the point. Spectacularly it still appears.

Matty Robson generally, was bobbins for us.

He played in the 2005 play off final, and got roasted.

He wa spreferred to Humphreys in the 2006/07 season, yet Wilson had to recall Humphreys, and bring in Monkhouse because Robson was shite.

He had about a 6 game spell last season where he looked good. Then we played West Ham and his arse dropped out.

He COULD play, but only did so every now and then. Too much of a soft poof....and probably gay.

And yes, he will probably have the game of his life tomorrow. But dont they all?

Of course, we could seriously get on his hump, sorry I meant back, and watch him probably burst into tears...............but as usual we will probably give him a huge cheer and give him a massive bost of confidence.........because lets face it, we arent the most volatile crowd around are we?

He should be hammered all game.

For once I agree with you.

I couldnt care less if he helps old ladies across the street, brings in homeless people of the street to stay in his spare room or fosters abused puppies, he is a footballer and for pools he was crap 80% of the time, 10% he was avarage and the other 10% he was good.

Far to inconsistant for Pools oh and he need to wind his chin in.

80%?

Load of crap.

Aw what the hell, he was as irritating as an Italian sports car on the pitch, capable of being exciting but totally unreliable and liable to break down just when you needed it to do the busioness. ...and if you can put an opposing player off their game 'during' the match, most things are acceptable.
