keeping the inside of my car windows clear?

I know in this type of weather, they do tend to mist up. But usually once the air in the car warms up, and is given a good blow around the car they clear OK. I'm struggling to see out of the car when I'm driving about in the dark at the moment. I'm OK with other cars, as long as they have their lights on, but I could easily 'take out' a pedestrian who is daft enough to step out anywhere near to me!

Worried of Billingham. sctatchinghead

Is it an old car? older cars steam up worst because they tend to have poorer seals so damp gets in. My car steams up like feck but its nearly 24 years old

In Ripper's world it's an old car, 10 year old, but fairly average age for me.

Often in this type of weather the mats / carpets are wet from getting in the car, especially when it's been snowing / raining heavily. When the heater starts working this water then turns to condensation on the comparitively cold glass.
I find that air conditioning is an effective way of getting rid of this, that's if your car as a/c.

I did try putting on the a/c, but it didn't seem to make much of a difference. The problem probably isn't helped much by a lot of my journeys being relatively short ones, between 1 and 3 miles most of the time.

Well, anyway, you gotta wear gloves. Of a sort of absorbent, non-woolly kind. Then you can clear the windows easily with the palm of your hand on those many occasions when your duster goes missing.

You have to turn the heating down, put the blower(s) on and open the air vents - but I'm sure you've done all of that. The short journeys probably don't give the a/c enough time to do any good.
Oh well, it has to be Grabec's solution then.

Try to cut down on the in-car heavy breathing during short journeys?

I don't have the time, and the other members of the family that I am running about are all reluctant to walk.

I've just been out dropping one of the lads at a Pub in Stockton, a round trip of about 10 miles. I turned the heating down to middle range, I had been blasting it at full tilt, and the windows cleared up quicker on the way out. But on the way back it started to rain/sleet and they were misting up again, and I could just about see out of them by the time I got back. banghead

As Snowy says, roll on the Summer.

Exactly the problem in my car. A drain tube must be rotten or blocked and it causes rain water to soak the carpet behind the passenger seat. The car mists up like a tw@t in cold weather.

Problem solved, more or less right Snowy. The button for recirc is supposed to light up when on, and therefore obversely when fresh air is being drawn in from outside it should be off. It wasn't lighting up even though it was on!
