Me and the Mrs have been having a pretty shiiitty time lately and split up for a while. We are thinking of 'trying' again but could do with a change of scenery. We are both off work in the middle of February and she would like us to get away for a couple of nights or so.

She is tempted by remote hotels in scotland etc while I was thinking about a village in the lakes. Does anyone on here have any venues they would recommend. Ideally it could do with being relatively stress free to get to and scenic while there. I never do holidays such as this so have no idea where to look.

Any recommendations greatfully received. We really need some quality time away.

I would try one of the big cities in Europe.
Plenty to do and see, with decent restaurants to take her to in the evening.
If you take her somewhere remote you could be pouring oil on the fire.
Being in each others pockets could have an undesired effect on your intentions.
Try Paris, Rome or Barcelona.
That way there would be ready made distractions should things become..........well you know.

Hope you sort it out to a satisfactory conclusion for BOTH of you.

Good luck.

if you have a bit of spare cash take her to amsterdam or paris if you REALLY want to impress her. Flights plus 2 nights at a hotel will set you back about 200 in total like. And hey, if it dont work out, there is always the red light district in amsterdam

Try Tighnavinish B&B on the remote Hebridean isle of Gigha. Very beautiful, very peaceful and if she gets bored she can check to see what Gigha Poolie wears under his kilt.

If you're looking at the Lakes and want somewhere to relax:

http://www.winderhall.co.uk/

It's a bit pricey but very nice.

Have to say you cant go far wrong with a trip to edinburgh or paris like as took my last g/f there.

However if you want a bit of quiet time I say you cant beat the lakes or go on moneysavingexpert.com and go to the travel page you can get flights for about £15 if you dont care where you go, have a bit of a look at the destinations and you can probably get abroad for under £150 for the weekend.

You know what women are like they will be more impressed going somewhere on a plane / boat etc than a drive in your car to the lakes (although I think the lakes would be better)

Wasn't Basil Fawlty (a member on here not John Cleese's character) a owner of a quiet hotel up in Scotland somewhere, he was offering deals for Poolies, and guaranteeing good service.

Book whatever you like, just have different destinations and you can't 'fall out' again.

Got to be Keswick for me. Go there 3 - 4 times a year. Its even better out of season when its not so busy. Loads of B&B's, cottages, pubs to stay at and within easy driving distance of other Lakes towns and villages.

Try this......http://www.keswick.org/

It's got to be the Yew Tree farm in Borrowdale, a B&B in a farm house where Prince Chaz goes. Only got 3 rooms but it is fantastic and the couple who run it are top class. Best breakfast I've ever tasted and all from the farm and by far the best views in Lakes.

You can book it on http://www.borrowdaleherdwick.co.uk.

There is a hotel down the road in Stonethwaite called The Langstrath and Hazel the B&B owner will book a table for you and the food is incredible http://www.thelangstrath.com

Enjoy

Try Relate mate before it's too late. A few days away will fix nowt. Good luck.

Thanks again for all the tips!

We managed to get booked up in a lovely looking hotel in Windermere for a couple of days. It was not easy finding places as we are looking to go away during half term week. It cost us a pretty penny but we have not had a change of scenery for so long that I cant wait.

Cheers
