So do we think we'll get any signings?

If you could strengthen just one position what would it be?

Personally I think that we have a real lack of pace in the team, either breaking from midfield or up front, so a good quick winger or forward is a must to give us another option and make us more difficult to defend against.

A striker, I think.

(That's to answer the 'what do I want?' question, not the 'do you think we'll get..?' one.)

Preferably a quick somebody who can put the ball in the onion bag.
Of course an established player of this ilk is probably out of our price range, but there must be some young, eager, bright up and coming prospect that would give us another option.
I'm sure our three illustrious neighbours have one or two that could fit the bill.
The big southern clubs loan lots of players out to the local sides, and yet our " big three" seem very reluctant to come to our assistance.
Why the hell is that ??????????????

i would be highly surprised if we signed anyone. We do need a pacy striker though.

It will be more likely that turner waits until the loan window reopens in a week or two if anything.

Perhaps we don't.

I find it strange though.

Will we sign a striker or a very solid Central Defender?

Highly unlikely, CT seems intent on building up the biggest squad of midfield players (or players that are best in midfield positions) in the football league. I predict that this week in training he will experiment with a 1-8-1 formation with the forward dropping back to help the midfield out when things get tricky. Added to this shooting practice will now take place against the doors of Hereema's big shed so our on target rate improves to 50% or more.

How old is Dickov? 37 or 38? Can't see him being the answer if we need pace.
Watson was still young enough to want to prove he could still play, Dickov is old enough to fancy a last payday without trying too hard. Maybe Darlo will be keen to pair him up with another elderly crock.

Someone like Dickov would do a job for us, proven goal scorer who can get into position and has the ability to convert chances.

Point taken.
But considering we actually paid money for him he's given us a very poor return.

I think actually playing him consistanly might resolve that problem

there is a loan window for league clubs (not prem) that opens a week after the transfer window closes. I assume most of the loans that have been done involve premier league clubs?

Jason Price to Oldham and Duffy to Carlisle. Both could have done a job here

We already have Bjorrson, Behan, Boyd, Larkin, Foley and Greulich.
Did anyone really think we could afford to bring another striker in on crowds of 2500:)

Forgot about Brown but he's injured.

if we can get brown back fit and on form then it will be much better than trying to get duffy and the like.

I still harbour hopes of getting someone in even if its only for a month on loan while brown is finding his fitness

Secretly the 3 neighbours of ours would probably love us to disappear, it makes sense for them all to accommodate our somewhat meagre support plus other benefits. Just as no doubt Newcastle/Sunderland were glad to see Gatesheads demise over 50 yrs ago.

Make no bones about it, it does'nt get any easier for teams like us to attract players, we are the Newport County in the shadow of Cardiff and Swansea. The Halifax Town in the underbelly of Huddersfield and Leeds, or the Stockport in Manchesters claw. We are though in a better position to do so than 30 yrs ago, and if we do stay up this season it would seem as though no progress has been made, but at least we'll be here to give it another go next season.

i doubt Gordon Strachan or Steve Bruce or that other ggezer give a flying shite about Pools and certainly wouldn't want us to go bust. After all they make the decisions on what players can stay/leave.

Turner said a few month ago that Pools enquired about a couple of Sunderland players but Bruce wanted them to play in the Championship.

Obviously Duffy didn't want to come this far north.

I don't suppose we could have afforded another player. May have got him on a free but it's still another wage. Anyway we have a big enough squad to compete in L1.

Oh yes, I remember now.

On the subject of the our Big 3 neighbours not supporting us, they have really tried to stitch us up in the past on more than one occeassion. Remember Sunderland stealing Paul Conlon from us (ok we arsed up with some admin but still a cheap shot...), then attempting to unsettle Halliday. Boro after we lent them our ground to enable them to survive tried to fleece us over Micky Barron when he was on loan by demanding a biggish (for us) fee. We couldn't afford it so he went back while we struggled for league survival to be played in the stiffs then release him for nowt. Then the Mackem shytes under Bob Murray joined forces with York City to send them their best youngsters on loan so that Sunderland could get some support based in York area and denied Pools and the Loids from signing Micheal Reddy..... Bunch of bastards the lot of them.....feck em all we don't need them refred

I can't wait for the day when they all over stretch themselves financially, and go out of business.
So we can pick up all of their spare fans, and have to build a 'Reynolds' sized arena to accommodate them all. In fact if Darlo can keep going maybe they can fill their ground too, with the leftovers.
