Houchen scored..it was our first ever victory at their ground. We were paggered for fourty-four minutes then scored on half time. That knocked it out of them, we were a different team after the break and could have ended up winning five or six nil.

I remember having gone on the Train and Tram to that game, and the guard on the train on the way back kept making odd comments.... I think he'd got into the New Year Spirit a bit too much.... also remember walking back along Horne Street and thinking it was appropriate!

1) Promotion Season game, there was someone selling soft toys for Charity ouside the ground, most of which got bought by Poolies who waved them around merrily inside the ground to the bemusement of the stewards.

2) Giggle Lane as Rochdale refer to it is also the home of FC United of Manchester, who I believe regularly get bigger crowds than Bury themselves despite playing in the North-West Counties League (Northern League equivalent)

3) The erstwhile home of a certain Mr. M. Nelson!

4) There was talk of them, Rochdale and Oldham joining together to form "Manchester North End", it didn't happen partly because they'd have had to take the place of the lowest team and Rochdale were then the only one of the three to be in the basement.

5) One of the people who's been on the board there is the Dad of Gary and Phil Neville, and I've always found his name makes me think of a Bowie song.... it's the same as his surname! All together now.... "Neville Neville, your face is a mess...."

brain barry murphy

a loanee left back for loanee left back sakes - how many of these short term left backs have we had????JP??

some notes on him in my work in progress

- he scored the 1000th goal in the division 4 in August 2005 fo r them. Oddly, Bury were the first club to score 1000 goals in the other three divisions, (Div 1 in December 1926, Div 2 in March 1953 and Div 3 in May 1997) -

also his da Jimmy was a top hurling player in his home country.
