A £500M project to develop Hartlepool's dockland has been scrapped – in a bid to bring jobs to the town.

So, would the original 500 million pound project have brought no jobs at all? sctatchinghead

Everyone and their uncle is gonna build wind turbines .. so you can kiss goddbye to things like the new leisure centre down there, although the weeds do have a certain appeal to some people.

So with the original redevelopment plans thrown out, does this have any affect on the sale of the Vic?

Noooooooooo, please don't talk about wind turbines. The ultimate crazy idea. If everywhere we look has an army of wind turbines...every coastline, every hill, every field, are we really going to want to carry on living?

I thought the story meant that wind turbines were to be built in Hartlepool. If it's wind farms, then what's the point of building a new nuclear power station at Seaton? sctatchinghead

So much for wanting to attract more visitors to Hartlepool.

I'm not sure about the details of the Hartlepool story. I just recoil with horror every time I hear references to wind energy. These wind things are springing up all over Co Durham, and everywhere else where the rich and famous don't live. They look ghastly, ruin the lives of people who live next to them, and apparently will never produce enough power to justify their existence.

(The last point is probably why there'll still need to be nuclear power at Seaton.)

The new ones will be, but the one off Redcar will be well visible, more visual pollution of the oceans skyline.
