However, the majority of the 17,000 who made the pilgrimage to Charlton that Sunday afternoon knew that this was a game that could go either way. And that they might, just might, return to the north east as supporters of a Championship club.

why didnt they go to the match ?

It's certainly shame, we wouldn't have been so much in the minority if all of them had turned up.

I think it's hard to argue a case for Cardiff not being the game of the decade. It was the game of the clubs history never mind the decade. Proudest day ever as a Pools fan, yes we lost but I left the satdium still with a greater sense of pride than I have after any run of the mill win.

I'm not sure the Loid 3-0 cake walk should have been joint second. Putting it into context we should never have even been in that division, they are always in that division (well for a few more months) we should have beat them. The game was hardly a classic either. Great for bragging rights yes, 2nd best game of the best decade in our history.... do give over. I'm just glad it wasn't voted in first, that would have been embarrassing.

The Luton 4-3 game is the best game I have ever seen, an amazing game of football.

It was the occasion rather than the result that made Cardiff the game of the decade.

Having to be in bed early to get up about 3.00am with several hundred fellow fans waiting for the coaches at the Mill House and then going off on the long journey into sheep-shagging land.

The final results have really surprised me.

I can not believe that either the 4-3 win away at Peterborough (or the 5-3 win) did not get in the top 5.

Personally, I thought that was one heck of a game.

Now, I find that interesting actually because I thought that people would have loved that game, but not voted for it because of what happened with Westwood's sending off maybe ruining the game, but this poll maybe shows that people are still optimistic about rthe game and being there, despite the dubious result.

The Peterborough 4-3 is a great shout (yes, seriously  ) So called relegation favourites 3-1 down coming back to win. A real catalyst for what happened under Cooper over the next two years, much more significant than brushing a mid table fourth division outfit aside.

In my opinion, the 3-0 win against Sheffield Wednesday was a great "result" with an unforgettable goal from Boydy, but it depends what people's definitions of the word "game" are.

I can understand the 3-0 win against Darlington being in the top 5 though.

Cardiff was a great day out yes,but lets keep things in perspective,it wasnt a cup final it was a play off.
Finishing in the top two would have been a far greater achievement than that trip to Cardiff.

Has to be the biggest, most important game in the clubs history. So Cardiff it is, simply because the other games resulted in 3 points. Whereas the Cardiff game was an all or nothing game to see who won promotion

I've just watched the 7 minutes or so of footage from Cardiff on Pools Player to confirm it as the Game of the Decade.

Just got to try and compose myself now. therethere

for being a horrific and nerve jangling 120 mins, followed by complete and utter jubilation?

i can't disagree with that.

The total votes were apparently spread over 15 different games. The top five actually consisted of 6 games. With both the 3-0 wins over the Loids and the Wendies in the rain getting 10% each. The Stoke game, surprisely I thought getting 7%, and the Grimsby 8-1 attracting 5%, means that the Tranmere 2nd leg sandwiched between them, must have had around 6%. Now the remaining 9 games will therefore have picked up less than 5% each, probably down to less than 1% for the lesser supported ones, but if you say about 2% on average. Now by my calculations that leaves around 44% voting for Cardiff.

So from that you can say that the Play-off Final is over 4 times as popular than any other choice. I don't know how many people actually voted, but there will have been a lot of people in Cardiff that didn't see a single one of the other candidates, in the flesh, and that would have been the only one they would be voting for. In the end I couldn't bring myself to vote at all, Cardiff would probably have been the one I went for, but I stopped short of voting for a defeat as my favourite game of the decade.

Thinking about it all again now, I would go for the first leg against Bristol City, if my memory isn't playing tricks on me, that day was the best atmosphere I have ever experienced at home, the noise was incredible, especially after Joel scored the equaliser.

Game of the decade cant be a game we lost in my opinion. Did I enjoy that day? Sadly no. Somehow it never felt real, even at 2-1 up something just didnt feelk right to me, was like a dream or something. And the end left such a bitter taste that thankfully i remember very little. Plus I was surrounded by twats who im guesing had never been to a game before and were doing my head in with daft questions and none of them would join in any singing etc. However the drinking in the streets before hand was brilliant!! Such an atmosphere.

For me its the 4-3 away win at peterbrough. New team, new manager and a new league plus brilliant weather. We turned up not knowing what to expect as lets be honest not much excitement was generated at Coopers appointment. But what we saw was breathtaking and set us up for some of the best attacking and most passionate football iv seen. It was a joy to watch us. Plus that goal by Nelson!!

Did you e-mail that choice into the Club, Mr. Tree?

If you didn't e-mail it, can you tell me why you didn't?

Because to me, it seems silly, us all wondering why that game wasn't up there.....and then later on we find out that maybe some people didn't vote for it.
