I've had enough of virgin, not virgins i love them, and when i move in april I dont fancy taking em with me, dont watch much of the tele, dont use the ouse phone and paying £50 a month just for broadband dont seem worth it.

Anyway...

Orange have offered us one of them dongle things for like £5 a month, are these worth it?

Is the broadband fast enough?

Cheers like.

Well technically im not, i've got v plus, landline, upstairs telly, broadband, comes to about £50, but like i said dont use landline, barely watching the tele, so it feels like im paying £50 for just broadband.

Everytime you move though you have to sign up to another 1 year contract, mine is just about to end so i thought whilst i could escape its worth looking into too see if i can get a better deal.

Not sure if i wanna be tied to them for another year, if it was dirt cheap like i would be tempted then.

i suppose it depends how you use your internet and how much? If its just checking emails and being chip fireballs lapdog on here ( ) then a dongle will be fine.

But if you use it to watch video and download then stick with your virgin

Just use it for footy manager, porn, web browsing and downloading music.

And of course admiring chip from afar.

Those dongles are crap, certainly no good if you want to download music. Virgin or Talk Talk are probably the best around.

I've got an Orange dongle that I use for work and it's sound as a pound.

No idea what its like for downloading but for general web browsing I am yet to have a problem. Was watching the cricket streaming during the night and that ran fine too.

hth.

I got conned into AOL's laptop offer about 16 months ago - but at least I'll drop them soon when my contract is up shortly. I'll be going onto Virgin broadband as well, it's a no brainer really - but then again fu-ck knows where my brain was 16 months ago.
Still haven't found it.

I pay about £70 a month to Sky, includes all the telly channels (Sky Sports, ESPN, fillums etc), landline phone and broadband. Seems quite reasonable to me.

Vergin Media are sly bastads.. they neglect to tell you that their "free" 10Mb service reverts back to 2Mb once you hit a certain download limit.. If you're going to be downloading a bit and using News Groups etc its worth payingthe extra £2 to guaratee you the 10Mb .. All you need to do is to go on paperless billing to get this back anyway!

you can pay 2 pound extra to stop them throttling your speed? When did this happen?

Rang them up today .. Noticed what was happening and threatened to pull the plug.. they replied we can put you a "guaranteed 10Mb for an extra £2 and we'll throw in a free wireless router!"

So it may be worth a phone call if you use a lot of bandwidth..

The only way I noticed this is on the bandwidth graph it seemed to drop off after a while.. I ran a speed test and hey presto I was only getting 2MB one phone call later I'm back up to the 10Mb they promise albiet £2 a month lighter!

On further investigation you only get another 1.5 Gb before you hit the throttling again

http://www.virginmedia.com/help/traffic-management.php

She never told me that ..and the biggest laugh is the one where they'd be doing the most D/L has no throttle at all

As I said Vergin media.... gunts...

Let me guess, you're using an illegal box and nicking the channels.

I agree.

So long as he or anybody else doesn't start crying foul if or when they're taken to court and taken to the cleaners.

My mam's just got a dodgy box, 100 quid, every single channel ever invented.

Very tempting for when this contract with virgin expires...

do it pubey my dad has one and is well worth it if you watch sport etc, he has had it about 2-3 years and hasnt been caught, also how exactly can they catch you if its like your tv licence dont they have to ask permission to come into your house by which time you can just throw the dodgy box out

The TV licence people don't need to enter your house, they can prosecute on the evidence they have with their technlogy.

i would be very careful buying one. If you believe the rumours they will have all been turned off by March 2010.

Tigro will probably know more

Very true, 3 cities have now been turned off, apparently the North East is next on their list, and before you say it no it wont be hacked and no the boxes wont pickup freeview, nor will they support narga3.

Hacked modems are the way forward tho  althought they are a fecking pain in the arse to get going sadx
