To be perfectly honest if they had marched there would've been a queue 10 miles long waiting to get into Wootton Basset. Common sense has prevailed and heres yet another reason to lock that gunt up.. Hope he gets whats coming to him in jail

I won't defend in indefensible (not that I know that much about the catholic church anyway) but I'm sure paedophilia isn't an exclusive residence of the catholic church.

PS Religion.. Is not worth the trouble it causes..

I'm glad that the march isn't going ahead, I really believe that there would have been some of these people lying dead on the street if it had and I really wouldn't want to see people locked up because of it.

I suspect I am actually more extreme than some on here.

You see, its like this:

I believe in freedom of speech, and I would be quite happy for these idiots to go marching wherever and whenever they want.

I would then be even happier to see a group of squaddies kick fook out of them.

banning is for poofs.

I think I would go further and just ban all groups. Just think of the difference that would make to the world....

By the way, from that article:
Slam4UK has called off its planned march through Wootton Bassett, the Wiltshire market town that has come to symbolise the fatalities sustained by British forces in Afghanistan you ..............
You surely have to ask, 'symbolise to whom'? Not to the thousands and thousands of people whose innocent relatives have been killed in Afghanistan, Iraq etc etc.

Ahem I think theres a big clue in the word "British" grabec!
I'd like to say I don't want to get into an argument wether or not the war in Afghanistan is correct or not. (having said that it may come as a shock to you all that the normally peace loving Chipster supports the action in Afganistan whilst he warmongering Mr I doesn't, so much for stereotypes huh!)

As for the innocent people killed in the action it is an inevitable outcome of such a war and also the thing that makes it difficult to prosecute the war.

As long as the taliban and there ilk chose to hide in amongst the "innocent" the more of them will be killed and thats a fact. Co-incidentally how many innocent people are being slaughtered by the taliban?

I would hazard a guess that these numbers where pretty high too!

Edited because it didn't make sense beforehand.. some will say it doesn't make sense now!!

You're just proving my point, Mr Pierrepoint. Facts aren't relative to nationality.
The article doesn't say 'symbolise TO the British', it says 'symbolises the fatalities sustained by British forces', implying that there is only one point of view. Iraqis and Afghans will rightly have a different point of view.

I'll have to stop reading the Guardian. I've noticed often lately that it's partisan.

Yes there are extremists out there but the catholic church actaully encouraged its priests in their vile practices.

I bet there are very few good muslims that have ever abused children.

No! they only kill or throw acid in the face of their kin if they fail to marry according to faith or arrangement.
However - There are very few good any religions or non religious who would abuse children.
I Hope.
On a personal note, to 'Hell' (if I believed in it) with ALL religions.

an interesting piece I read about the four-by-twos yesterday. I wouldn't fancy living a life like the Haredim do, either, as some have had enough of it. Religion is baaad...mmkay

It seems to be frighteningly easy to get people to believe things, without any evidence whatsoever. For instance, all the people who Stalin did away with, after getting them to sign 'confessions'. They hadn't done anything and they weren't necessarily tortured. they just seem to have been talked into admitting guilt.

I was asked to leave the Boys Brigade (Hartlepool Second) when I was about 12/13 because I would not go to church.
It makes me wonder if the Brigade was there for the benefit of the boys or just a recruiting arm of the C of E.
Anyway, at the time it just pissed me off and put me off, without knowing about the politics.

What surprises me about many religion's are the seemingly stupid myths that go with them. Especially regarding the hair, whether it be on the head or the face (I was tempted to say arse but I restrained myself).

I noticed that one of the banners this group was waving read: "Islam will take over the world". The day will come when we'll have a choice of either of either being ruled by Mecca, or by Beijing. And I can't see the Chinese allowing a "little" problem like Islam getting in the way of their plans for global domination.

even the Chinese regime allows for individuality and enterprise these days... it will evolve and get better (though not to the point where they will allow a load of satellite independent states to spring up as they did from the old Soviet Union). If the choice was that or being told how to lead my life by some ancient fairy tale, then it's a no brainer.
One thing about the old communist regimes is that religion is officially discouraged - an excellent stance in my view. If it was all eradicated then at least that's one less ideological load of bollocks to be used as an excuse for these groups to use.

Expanding on Chip's point - it is extremely scary how many people in the world today blindly follow religions of all kinds.

Is following a football team akin to following a religious ideology? If so, being Poolies, are we religious fundamentalists? sctatchinghead

I had a worrying moment during a pre-op examination for the old snip. I went to see the consultant snipper and at one point in the examination he seized the the old Ollies and said in a loud voice.....ONE......TWO. There was then a pause when I thought he was going to say.................THREE.

It was alright like but they ended up doing it with two bricks.
