DB was wanting stories of people having their named called out over the PA system. Someone called up to say that when he came up to Hartlepool for a game against Maidstone United in the 90s, he was referred to as The Milky Bar Kid by the announcer.

Anyone remember this?

No, but I wish I had a tenner for everytime Mr.O has said "this evenings" or "this afternoons" game when it's been the opposite.

My mate from Worksop always used to laugh at 'Bourne -mouth' and 'Ply-mouth' but he was from Sheffield and still said 'thee' and 'tha' instead of 'you' and 'your.'

One of the better stories I remember from the late 70's early 80,s was the one about Halifax (I think or Huddersfield) ringing the Vic' midweek prior to a game down there, the reason to obtain the Pools team prior to printing their programme for the match.
Unfortunately for them Bob Newton took the call, and proceeded to construct a team including Vince Barker,Tommy Johnson (physio), the club secretary, the groundsman et -al, of course they went ahead and printed it. I know it to be true as I have the programme upstairs somewhere.

If it was Bob Newton you'd have expected to see that well known female defender Stella Artois selected.

I've phoned Pools quite a few times over the years to announce that so and so's missus had been rushed to Hospital to give birth....happy 40th to you know etc etc!!!! :grin:

Best one I ever did at Bury a few years ago though....you had to be there....but hence to say I got in for nowt!!!! :coool:

It involved the announcer saying someone had left his car lights on and then I returned to the gate and said I had to come out and turn the lights off etc....in for nowt!!!! :laugh:

I got that one out of a book....about Scousers of all people!!!! :laugh:

Tried it at Swindon....never worked!!!! banghead
