Elvis would have been 75 today if still alive! (some say he still Lives
.... last seen running from Sherburn Hill to Durham uh uh)

Also known as The King..... but was he? Do you Bunkerites
think EP deserves this tag?

Once saw him described as an overated cabaret singer (could have actually been on The Bunker that I saw that) and fully concurred.

Never really clicked with Elvis, much preferred Johnny Cash or Roy Orbison.

Much like Marylin Monroe and James Dean, dying young was a great career move and the legend is greater than the sum of its parts.

I'll just highlight the fact that he never actually wrote any of his songs, although
was credited on 9 songs but didn't actually contribute, this was a ploy by Col Parker
to make more money for his act and of course himself!

Mine was a glittering gold suit...so is that ok?
And I ran in it as opposed to singing :coool:

Early doors and no-one really knew what to do with an act. Consequently he ambled around crap films, crap songs and crap TV. Joined the Army as a publicity stunt, sank without trace, resurrected at Las Vegas and became a parody. Wasn't even that young when he died. Legacy: all to the songwriters of whom, Lieber and Stoller were OK. Big noise no content. confised

The music industry's first ever marketing campaign.

Lieber and Stoller were told to 'do one' by Tom Parker because they were willing to give Elvis more input into his songs

No wonder the poor fat fooker died mind, Parker worked him like a bounder, something like 531 shows in six years at Las Vagas

"Elvis was a hero to some but he never meant shit to me,
That sucker was racist and plain, motherfook him and John Wayne".

Quite like a bit of Elvis really but they're the best lyrics Public Enemy ever wrote, guaranteed to send a redneck apeshit.

I seem to remember that his mother was a Creole, which accounts for the smear with the tarbrush.

Lot of African American in his decent early stuff, lot of fat white American in his later cabaret bollocks. Jimmy Reid, Big Mama Thornton and Big Joe Turner all died a lot skinter than Elvis though.

Two crucial Elvis points-

How unlucky was Lisa Marie to come out looking like an uglier version of her Dad given her lovely Mom's contribution to the gene pool?

How weird was big Elvis fan Nick Cage to marry Lisa Marie who is an uglier version of her Dad?

Not to mention the fact she married Wacko Jacko!, what the hell was all that about?
