Looking for some stocking fillers yesterday, and came upon some quite classy sets of pre-decimal coins. But...the half-pennies cost £2.99...... confised

Well, first, are they in mint condition, or are they all grotty and tarnished?

As for bag-pipes....who was it said that the definition of a gentleman is someone who can play the bag-pipes, but doesn't?

I think they are the opposite of me and are grotty and tarnished.

Only joking I have them at the rents house so will dig them out at the weekend when I am home, they are not in a box thing they are just loose coins, if I have some good ones you are welcome to them for nowt.

I'm on nights Friday and Saturday - I will shut myself out from the world in Snoozeville!!! I probably won't bother getting up for the match either...unless Turner has left the building by some remote chance

Surely all halfpennies are pre-1972. Is this a Knaresborough joke, Talbot?

Gerraway. The half pence didn't go out of circulation til about 1980- I remember getting sweets from the ha'penny tray in Stubbs' shop in Murray Street and I wasn't even born in 1972!

The decimal halfpenny was withdrawn in 1984. But the old ha'penny that would probably have been in display cases would have been pre-decimal coins. With a face value of 1/480th of a pound or 1/2.4 of the newer decimal halfpenny. So not really the same thing at all.
