Oldham are offering a ticket against exeter this weekend for only £2. I was wondering if pools should do something like this granted not £2 thats mad, but say £10 adults and £5 kids?

Probably should have done this a million times over the years, incentives to bring in new fans / bring back old fans.

But they wont.

the few times we have reduced our prices hasn't increased the crowd, so they are probably thinking.....whats the point?

However i reckon they should pick 2 or 3 games a season and let kids in for a quid

They have reduced, but for cup games, when the crowd would always pretty much be low anyway.

Nothing like what exeter are doing here.

Funny how this subject comes up every now and then and Pools are cast in the role of some tight fisted uncle. When the same people apply the same logic to pubs, I'll take it seriously.

Pubs do indeed put offers on ... and you may have also noticed that they're closing at a record rate. Connections eh.

or maybe that they have to put the offers on or they dont get people in connections eh

I work in a pub and its doing better than last year due to the fact there are constant offers on food and drink.

... or maybe the pub you're working in is desperate to stay afloat and trying everything. Pubs are still closing at record levels.

Name me a good pub, a solid regular pub, in this town that has closed recently?

I can't think of many.

The good pubs, like compo has said, put offers on and entice people in.

It's not 1979 snowy, social clubs dont rule the world still.

The more stinky old man infested committee run bingo fuelled social clubs that close the bloody better!

Years ago people my and your age Yubep would have been going down the working mans club to see "the turns" and have a pint with the old man. To be honest that would be hell on earth. Look at the pubs in the town that have been going since i was 17-18 Yates, corner house, bar paris and king johns, thats if you want to go down the town. But if youwant a quiet drink with your mate there are pubs that have been around since I was a nipper the warrior, schooner, the fens.

Simple, despite the fact we're in a recession, most people are still working as normal. But as we live ina climate of fear about jobs and wondering where the next blows gonna fall, people are cautious with their money. So while they aren't spending on the big things, like cars and houses, they still have the readies but they're hanging onto it. they may splash out on things they need, but things they consider a luxury like eating out will be bought at a favouable price.

I love how people speak on behalf of other people.

These 'theys' that you have made yourself spokesperson for, who are they?

Older people? Younger? upper middle class?

How do you know these figures?

Have you carried out door to door research to find out how people are spending the money they earn.

The figures are there too see for houses n cars not being bought, i dont dispute that, but how do you know how people are spending there 'readies'?

There's my youth gone, then, disappearing into piles of rubble. First the Catcote and now this. I feel as if I don't exist any more.

How can you class a pub that is loosing money good, obviously eveyone doesnt think so or it would stay a float, if my company or I wasnt selling enough products and loosing money I and the company would be classed as shit.

I hate vodka redbulls, gin and giner now there is a drink.

popular meaning people going in and spending enough money to keep it afloat.

Pubs are closing in record numbers all over the country - maybe Hartlepool is not representative (like it isn't for many things).

I'm sure Mr Parmo could tell you the reasons why it is difficult to keep a decent pub open.

In response to the original topic on the thread, didn't we reduce the price for the Kettering game and no bugger turned up?

I'll tell you 3 good reasons why good pubs are closing.

1. The smoking ban. People would rather sit at home with a drink where they can have a tab.

2. Chains, e.g. Wetherspoons, Yates, Tesco, Asda, all selling booze at prices that pubs can't compete with.

3. Pricks. You know, the old gimmers who think that they should still be going "down town" on a weekend. Going round town is for teenagers and people in their early 20s, mostly single folk going out on the pull. It isn't for people in their late 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s +, most of those who are in those age groups are married or the like too but still feel the need to tart themself up and go off slagging around town to see if they can get a shag behind 42 or wherever is popular nowadays. Especially baffling are the married ones who don't even go out together as a couple but instead take it in turns to go out with their mates. Brainless. Surely it's much more appealing for people to get a little bit more civilised as they get older, go to restaurants, music venues, local pubs, places where you don't have to shout or lip-read to have a conversation? But no, unfortunately there are too many brainless pricks about who are incapable of having a conversation so they go down town to wine bars and nightclubs instead meaning that places such as local pubs are closing down.

Too true, it's people stuck in a time warp even Dr Who would be scared to enter. Twenty years from now it'll be be like Ben Hurs fooking chariot race with electric buggies whizzing about all over the place and ram raidng kebab shops.

Different class of people that elvisc, they are the little finger in the air wine drinkers, live round west park n think they own the town, stand outside so anyone going past can see them in there.

You see, that's where you're very wrong.

Most of the doyles who drink in the White House DON'T live around West Park, they drive or get taxis there so that they can stand outside to be seen and have people THINK that they live around there.

I used to play footy for them just after it opened..about 1994/5 maybe? Don't think it was open when Pools 1991 Promotion Bus went past as that roundabout's were I watched it from.

It opened about 1990 or '91. We used to go in on the way into town when I was a kid, the first time that they ID'd me was on my 18th birthday and we'd been going in a while then.

I sometimes go to the White House because I quite fancy a pint.

Outrageous I know.
