I thought that as well.

But watching it again, he says something about Pools 'fighting to regain their lead', and then goes on to say 'but Carlisle were the first to actually score'. Doesn't make a lot more sense though.

I noticed that as well and presumed maybe incorrectly that the tape had been edited in some way and he was actually saying something like "and in the second half Carlisle were first to score". It probably nothing like that at all, was only thing that came to mind at the time.
