If they stop working, what's likely to be the problem? Does it mean a garage job?

Probably a fuse or at a push, the wiper motor.

Has anything else stopped working at the same time?

What sort of car is it (including year)

No matter what the problem is on your car always check the fuses.

Thanks all. Nothing else has stopped working that I know of.
I don't know the year, Mr I, don't be silly. I'm a woman. It's blue.

If you look at the car you'll see a random selection of numbers and letters on the front and strangely enough they repeated on the back but on a different colour piece of plastic. Technically its known as a 'number plate'.

Cleverly, you can decipher the age of the car by analysing these numbers. It will either have a letter at the front w, x,y and so on or it will have two letters and two numbers at the beginning of the sequence. The numbers will have things like 02/52/03/53/04/54 (see what I did there?)

Can you have a look and report back? better still get a bloke to look for you. If there are no blokes, look for a woman in 'comfortable shoes'

Incidentally, when you put the wipers on can you hear any noise? Yes I know theres a click when you flick the lever, I meant a motor sound? No, thats the engine, turn it off but leave the ignition on - that means there are red lights on the dashboard. Now with the ignition on and the engine off, turn on your wipers. Is there a noise?

Go to the driver side down on the floor there is a panel. Within there the wiper fuse, its a 20 Amp fuse below the radio fuse - when you remove cover look at back of cover there is a picture of fuse lay out.

I really could not bring myself to do anything with this. It'd be like stamping on a kitten, which of course they all do here, every minute, all of them, but you know what I mean??

I was going to offer a solution to the problem involving a mechanic........... bbolt

to get back to the point it may be a linkage problem. did you try to use the wipers first thing this morning while the screen was frozen

Yes, I did, No 6. They swished twice and then stopped. Is a linkage problem easily put right?

possibly.
sometimes it is simply a case of popping a little arm back into a plastic bush BUT the panel underneath the wipers will need to be taken apart to look.

I replaced a wiper motor on one of my cars, it was quite easy, I'm still surprised to this day.

It was a Ford Anglia though, so it was quite a long time ago.

right what you do is get a long piece of string take one end through the left window and tie it to the wiper then take the other end through the right window and tie it to the wiper, now all you do is pull the string towards the right and then towards the left and there you have it fixed
