School dinners where in the asbestos ridden building near the Friarage Youthy. All I really remember of them is the tickets we were meant to buy at the beginning of the week, the hard-crusted apple-duff, and the strange gold metallic jugs the water came in

Never went myself either. The first 2 years went home to Commercial Street around the back of the Palladium, and the other 3 caught a bus to our new home in West View near to The Queen. The smell coming from those outbuildings put me off from ever trying food from there.

I'm off Verrills at the minute.

Went in there the other Saturday, 1245 (at least half an hour before it closes) only to be told (after having stood in the queue for ages) that they'd run out of fish. A fish shop that runs out of fish half way through its opening hours? stpid

This has happened to me before.

Verrills frustrates the life out of me. They're open for about 16 hours a week in total, they get shitloads of custom, yet they have no idea how to plan for a frying session.

And what is the ticket queueing system all about? Why not take the money off someone after they've been served with the food, like every other chip shop in the world? How they operate at the moment almost causes rucks between pensioners who have been waiting for a half lot, and one mistakenly goes before the other one.

I only go there because they are the best in town in my opinion, if someone can recommend anywhere better please let me know.
