Its hardly going to make a dent in their weekly wage but nonetheless a decent gesture and it shows the players do care about the fans.

That's the point I'm making. It's a gesture and as you say it won't make much difference to each player, but it will mean a lot to the fans who give up their day to follow their team and spend a lot of their spare cash. Granted, it's only entrance money but its something.
