1. There just isnt enough punters who go to gigs around here to make it financially vailble.

2. well, its not purpose built as live music venue. the internal structure renders it infeasible as there are columns everywhere which would lead to restricted viewing. To alter this would cost a shed load and you wouldnt get maximum return on investment.

I reckon if you don't lose, it means you're good, in simple terms.

There is money to be made but being a disciplined poker player is very difficult, I have lost a fair bit online by being stupid and going on tilt when a bad beat happens. It is also difficult to control your greed when you are on a good run because you always want more.

if you can be disciplined, unemotional and patient then there certainly is cash to be made wherever you play.

most of the worlds top poker players are either maths or science graduates. thats those that didnt drop out of college to play the game as it was more financially beneficial to do so.

over a period of time a good player will always beat a bad player.

if you play online your, single table stats are kept at http://www.sharkscope.com

i have nothing to hide. my user name is chipfire 227 and the network i play on is betfair. you can log on and view my stats 24/7 free of charge.

last years stats :

Username Games Played Av. Stake Av. ROI Total Profit /ability/100 Network Filter
chipfire227 5,094 $17 7% $6,515 - 74 Betfair x

in laymans terms, thats 5094 games played at an average stake of 17$. which equates to entry fees for last year of just over 86 and a half thousand dollars. my return on investment is 7% which means a profit of $6516.

in addition to that, as a high user, i am on a rakeback deal with betfair of 30%. this means i get 30% of my entry fees back from the site. entry fees for last year were 8500$. meaning cashback of $2550.

total single table profit is therefore circa $9000. which of course is tax free.

there are also promotional and mtt moneys to go on there. i dont even think about the money. i play probably 10 x 24$ games a day, most days. which is about a grand a week. for me its just a part time job i enjoy and can do in my own home whenever i choose. it works out about a fiver an hour, so its by no means wonderfully well paid.

i've been playing poker for nearly 4 years and have had one losing month. anyone who is good at mental arithmetic, has a good memory, has discipline, and is prepared to study the maths of the game will make money.

obviously there are one or two on here who know sweet fook all about the game, but are prepared to shout their mouths off nonetheless.

decent stats, you must be playing lots of hours though to play 10 sit and go tournaments in a day? I'd of thought atleast 5hrs? Also if you are outlaying in the region of 50k for a profit in the region of 5k, thats like backing a 1/10 shot, if u like playing at them odds u may as well put 50k on chelsea 2moro!! and save yourself many hundreds of hours sat in front of your computer  or better still get yourself along to your local casino :!:
The lightning tree, ye it would be more popular, and employ more local people.

as much as points 2 and 3 are viable and sound about right.

Point 1 i massivly disagree with.

If a sizeable venue got the right promoters and got the right bands on they could attract 'punters' from all over the north east, this town could have a few venues which could surpass in size places like the empire and the o2 academy in newcastle, and become much bigger and better and really get this town on the map.

How do people get home from boro and newcastle at 12pm when a gig is finished? They dont have public transport on at that time of night, no trains, no busses, no special anything put on at all.

Taxi's, mini bus or there own cars.

This would be exactly the same from here aswell.

I'm sure a taxi can make it into hartlepool.

This whole rubbish transport links rubbish annoys the tits off me

People say it as if this town just has one entrace to it which is a dirt track.

We have a train which goes one way to the yakker villages, sunderland, newcastle, metro etc

and another which goes to billingham, stockton, boro, thornaby (which then links you up to york, manchester etc etc)

Buses run regularly to boro and stockton too.

And also the other way again to sunderland and newc.

It's not like that fecking film wrong turn!!!

Stupid excuses by stupid people in stupidly high paid jobs being stupid!!

er,... the trains going through the 'yakker villages' could be a problem as there's no station and they don't actually stop, so you's have to to jump out ... and if you can get a bus to Newcastle, let me know...as for buses to Stockton and Middlesbrough, the Number 36 takes soooo long you need a shave when you step off it blinking in the sunlight.

the number goes to middlesbrough 3 times an hour, i got it the other day, it's as quick as a flash

Granted the 36 takes a while, but it stop off at billingham, stockton, thornaby, middlesbrough...

It takes in a lot of places, thus proving the decent transport links!!

There is enough ways to get to this town if people wanted too, and enough ways to get out aswell.

Like chip says though regarding gigs, there at night, and every town has shit transport links on a night.

Maybe with the new transport interchange, things will improve  A late train to and from Newcastle would certainly be well used, as people have said, after gigs up there, its a case of a costly taxi back unless you can crash at a mates or something. A midnight train home from Newcastle would be mint clappp
Can't ever imagine another live music venue in Hartlepool taking off. The studio is great and already fills that role, along with the town hall and borough hall from time to time. A bigger venue similar to newcastles academy would struggle to survive in Hartlepool IMO.
I think the council should have cleared the site a long time ago and built a new swimming/ leisure facility down there. As it stands at the minute, due to the layout of the building, surely it can only ever be developed into another shopping precinct, which judging by some of the crack on this thread, a lot of you would love sctatchinghead bbolt I say a casino, or knock the thing down!

You cant even get a late train back to Darlo on the East Coast mainline, not even midweek. Its stupid! I went to the Kasabian gig at the Metro Arena and had I gone on the train I wouldve missed the last train back as the gig finished just as the last train was leaving. How are we meant to use public transport more when there just isnt any available when you need it?

Look at the plans and the images ...just how a grossly overpriced layby with two crap bus shelters they are grandly labelling an 'interchange', is gonna change anything, is a mystery to me. We are NOT getting a proper bus staion, we are getting the pisspoor option in a place that will be of no use to anyone.... and by accepting this, we've effectively buggered up our chances of ever getting a proper bus staion.... nowt new there then.
