Try something called vision, this was discussed in some depth on a programme on the BBC World Service ... this is still at the 'let's see how the mugs respond stage' of the experiment, not my words. Auto tills are fine for a couple of items, try doing a full shop with a couple of screaming kids and see how much fun it is ..... auto tills are OK if they're part of a choice, it becomes unfunny when they become the only option.
I'm NOT saying ban them, I'm saying I want a choice and not what's best for the supermarkets bank balance.

And at the moment you have that choice.

Stop winging for the sake of it.

If they take away all the tills i'll happily help you sharpen your pitch fork and walk on down to the front doors of the asda.

Until then you have a shed to protect from local chavs who have spyed that lock on your door as a little loose.
