The guy has just lost his job, will no longer be able to play professional football and has left the club. Without going over the top or wishing to cry crocodile tears I would like to wish him all the best for the future and hope he finds his niche in life be it as a coach, community officer or whatever. I would also like to thank him for his contribution to Pools as he has the honour of being one of the select band of former Pools players who has tasted promotion with the club.

Fellow bunkerites please don't turn this thread into another PoK wind up. Thank you

Good luck Willie Boland, good player, just a shame he was robbed of so many games through injury.

I wouldn't be surprised to see him turn up in management, he seems quite a clever bloke plus you sense that he wouldn't be messed with!

Best of luck William.

But again... to mention fetish bobs point again, has he lost his job? Has he been a member of staff and on the pay roll since his contract ended?

Was being serious. I think its an utter disgrace some of the comments aimed at a guy who has to retire form a sport he loved and who did his best for our club. Some people need to give their heads a shake.

There was only a couple of people criticising his rapport with the fans in that other thread. I thought you must be implying that the other thread was a disgrace due to all the pok-knocking!

That as well. Its quite simply bullying. The poor lad just gives his opinion and you all jump on him like a pack of dogs.

Im not posting any more on this thread as its just another Willie Boland thread which is going to get spoiled. I rated Boland as a player and merely said that the 'abuse' in the other thread was by no means everybodies opinion

all the best to you Willie whatever you decide to do. Gave 100% every time on the park and there's no more any fans can ask for that that, and for me became a vital part of the promotion-winning squad.

Best left there Mr Splod so that everyone can judge for themselves. The discerning Poolie will see whats what, and quickly establish who's who.

I love yer Willie! I wanted to see more of yet Willie but it wasn't to be.

We've really missed him imho and it's a case of not knowing what you've got till it's gone. He didn't play for himself, he was a pure team player throughout his career. And he'll be a big miss.

All the best Willie.

Although the news that Willie has retired hasn't come as a massive shock I am still a bit gutted. Willie was a winner who played with a lot of heart, no one messed with us when he was in the team. he did the simple things very well as well as what some would consider to be the ugly things like winning 50 - 50's or 40 - 60's extremely well. he gave our team shape and if he lost the ball he did his best to win it back.

I also don't remember an occassion when Willie has let us down, even when he lashed out and got sent off against Brighton you could understand why. When Willie was in the team you certainly knew he was playing - all in all a cracking team player. Thanks Willie...... clappp

I thought he was a good player and our only midfielder who went in hard! He loved a tackle! All the best for the future Willie!

A real shame that injury has ended Willie's career. Expected or not, it's a loss as he epitomised what I wanted from a pools midfield. Strong, made himself available for the simple ball, played a simple ball well and had a proper football brain. Willie Boland will be missed as an intelligent, hard tackling, holding midfield player. Thanks for the games you played in Blue and White, shame there weren't more - good luck for the future

It's really nice to have a bit of reasoned reflection, as opposed to the 'i DON'T RATE THE BLOKE THEREFORE HE'S RUBBISH' brand of reply that starts with one dog howling and the rest yap in puzzled agreement.

I have fond memories of feeling very smug on the tube from Leyton to Epping having watched a Pools midfield of Boland, Liddle, Brown and Monkhouse swarm all over Orient for 90 minutes. One of the highlight performances of the last decade and Boland played a full part, as he did in much of the promotion season.

Thanks for your efforts Willie, and good luck for the future.

aye and I could have taken a big bite out of your pie, and you wouldn't have even noticed cos you were watching the goings-on on the pitch

A really good player who will be massively missed. like someone else has posted not really expecting anything other than this news, but still massively gutted.

I hope he will be at the game on saturday so we can give him a send off he deserves. If not already planned could someone at the club arrange this?
