Also Oi, You! Snowy...I hope you won't take this amiss, but have you ever read 'The Oldie'?
Read it for the first time yesterday and quite liked it. Am sure some of the writers/contributors must have plagiarised your posts.

 .... I'm a Private Eye reader, but sometimes like a read of the Spectator ... isn't the Oldie the one started by Richard Ingrams, ex editor of Private Eye...?

Funny thing is, i couldn't stand the first series and have only seen bits of two episodes. The other three series were brilliant and I can't say I have a real favourite.

For me the last episode of Blackadder Goes Forth cannot be topped. Which is why I think that, well apart from the Christmas Special, they decided to end the character at his peak.

You have to admire the writers and directors. The actors get the plaudits, but Rowan Atkinson made the Thin Blue Line crap which was as amusing as our lass in a mood.

I think you might have something there Snowy. The first series was written by Richard Curtis and Rowan Atkinson, the others where Richard Curtis and Ben Elton. I know some people on here don't like Ben Elton as a performer, or his politics, but as a comedy writer, well you can't really argue against his credentials in those series of Blackadder.

edit: Sh*t, just ruined my argument, Ben Elton wrote The Thin Blue Line cr*p.

The first series also cost a packet and was going to be the last, as well as the first, if you follow my logic.... and best of all, it made my middle name acceptable.

Surely Hillary made your middle name acceptable, when he stuck his flag in Everest.

My Dad was similarly christened with the same two names as his Dad, who he hated, and as a result never liked his christian names. Apparently I was named after a friend of the family, which has always worried me a little!

That's the one. The best bit this week was the problem page. Elderly persons wrote in with senior citizen problems, and the agony aunt creased up laughing.

Funnily enough, my favourite episode was the one where Baldrick became the MP for Dunny on the Wold....just like politics today.

Monty Python is, on reflection, hit and miss. When it cam out it had no competition and there were 3 channels. As a result, it became the must watch programme, but sadly, was at times like the kings new clothes and just naff at times, but you could never say that.

Although to be fair even the Pythons say that too.

The films are another matter, they're outstanding.

I'm highlighting the attitude of people who slavishly proclaimed the TV series was all funny, for appearances sake, when it wasn't. It had its moments, but doesn't really stand the test of time.

Then of course, there's the Young Ones and Bottom, violent slapstick and satire, there's something compelling about it....anyone remember Mayall and Edmonsons debut as 'The Dangerous Brothers'....?

you can buy individually
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Blackadder-2-En ... 388&sr=8-5

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Blackadder-Enti ... 388&sr=8-4

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Blackadder-Fort ... 388&sr=8-2

for £17.94 it says or throw in an extra 3 squids and get

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Complete-Blacka ... 388&sr=8-7

As many have already said the first series is very different from the other three maybe not as slick and the charecter of Blackadder is more gormless and Baldrick is a bit more intelligent .

I watched it recently I've decided its more pythonesque in many ways and is definitely worth the extra 3 squids

No intention of being an aduly but I'm going to make a new years resolution to watch the Python Films.

So we do exist, those that have not yet worshipped at the feet of Python.
