Recycling. This is from the Mail:

"We have tried to educate and encourage residents in certain areas, but enforcement action is needed. It is everybody's responsibility."

Now as a comparison, we collar the old Grandma from downstairs, she comes up and takes all our recycling, bottles, cardboard, paper, polystyrene, owt really, weighs it up and gives us a few pennies for it. She takes it all to the recycling merchants who pay her a few more pennies for it to pad out her pension, and they sell it on to the various recycling plants who pay them a few more pennies for it. Everybody gets paid, everybody wins and the recycling rate is 97%. Believe it or not, they still have pig bins here and feed the food waste that can't be re-used, for like making bone broth or summat, to the pigs. I have never seen a landfill site here, although they must put the 3% somewhere I suppose and it won't be small with a population this size.

They're trying to fine you to get you up to 48%.

Just the difference between the carrot and the stick I expect. We get money, you get a criminal record. I thought it was me that lived in a Communist dictatorship.

Are you saying that you drag the old grandma all the way up the stairs to collect your rubbish and then you take her pennies from her for the privilege????

ps.....if you are trying to promote a bit of free enterprise in a communist environment then I suppose you could be forgiven.
As a compromise.....give her a tip now and then!!!!!!!!!! Or have you already??

Yeah, it's abuse the pensioner time!!

No she comes up in the lift and she'd be horribly offended if we didn't take her money.

It's a funny set up here, no-one tips anyone. If you leave money on the table in a restaurant, they'll chase after you down the street to give it back to you. Giving money away is seen as extravagance and extravagance is seen as showing off and showing off loses you 'face.' If we turned her money down she'd feel like a beggar.

They are funny buggers at times. It's a rats nest if you don't know how to go on. If you give a present, they won't open it and enthuse about it, they say a quiet thanks and put it away until you've gone unless it's something you can eat, when they'll open it and share it with you.

She brought us a chair the other day, from a shop that had closed down downstairs. One chair that doesn't match anything we've got but we had to take it off her or she 'loses face' so now it's out on the balcony in my smoking den.

hmmm....values.........something the youth in this country should be taught...instead of how to work the benefit system and other sh-it such as political correctness blah blah blah
