winning brings in the fans.

Our average attendance pre IOR was around 2,000 (cue Mad John to correct me  )

a few years of good football, playoffs and a winning mentality saw the average crowd swell to over 5,000.

If we were to spend a couple of seasons in and around the playoffs our crowds would probably swell back up to the 5,000 mark.

I reckon Turner & Uncle Ken know this, hence the 11 new signings, which may i add are only the 'base' of our new squad. Next year (Mr Turner has suggested once or twice) will see even more improvements. There has been a firm statement of intent by Turner that he & IOR want Pools to be at least a top 6 side in league 1, if not higher.

If they get their wish, the fair weather supporters will come back.

But do concentrate on comparing Hartlepool to Burnley, but.......

Well, Burnely is one of those places nobody would ever go to, unless you wanted to watch your team,

The people of Burnley probably never leave the place, unless its to watch their team,

Burnely reminds me of one of those red neck towns out in the sticks of America, everyone is related to someone.

Isnt Burnley, with its loyal, we all support Burnley, fans, one of the heartlands of the BNP.

Carry on.

I think the pot is calling the kettle black there like. When I was at university we did a genetics assignment on people in the north-east generally with information collected in the collieries and hartlepool / stockton areas as it a genetic bottle neck.

I agree, a fair percentage of people in Hartlepool never leave, just like the League of Gentleman.....

Get yourself into some pubs and clubs in this town and it looks as if the old adage 'Incest is best' rules

had to laugh at that rolfl

Has the rot started with Pools support now? just over 3k crowds in league 1? A sign of the times?

This thread is uncannily like several we have had on our board over tha last season or 2.

It is a sign of the times, by Saturday we'll have played four home games in a couple of weeks and within the month of August, it is £20 to get into the league games and was £16 the other night. So £76 admission to watch football in an area of high unemployment, that is a big outlay. it's not really rocket science to see why we've gone from averaging 5,000 to 3,500-4,000.

Many clubs are in the same boat.

These continued discussions about attendances do irk me. We know what we are; we know what we've got; let's just be happy we have at least 2-3,000 other people like ourselves who support our hometown team who we find common ground with and be proud about that.

If we're going to moan about things, let it be about playing music after goals bbolt

How many people leave home at 2.30 to get to the match and go straight home after?

I only get to maybe 5 or 6 home games a year but whenever I do go to footy, i'll always have a few pints before and after plus have a bet on the score. I reckon £50 minimum spent each match and that is before any fodder. I know that I don't have to have a drink and a bet but that is part of the 'day out' when I go to pools and if you are doing that 3 or 4 times a month, the cost would soon mount up.

Getting to the point..........the cost of watching pools is not just the entrance fee, its the overall day/night out and I have no doubt that many season ticket holders will have given the game a miss noting the number of home games in the month. Just my opinion.

money is the main reason I haven't been this season, hope to make it on Sat'der like.

it's not the only reason though, I chose the folk festival [free] over the match and had a gig when we played brizzle........

that comment about the catchment area stretching to York made me chuckle! I have a 50+ mile round trip to get to the game, and I dont see too many other people round here making it!!
1 fella i know round here supports Pools
Redcar/Marske/the Burn = mainly Boro
Loftus/all the other in bred villages = mainly Leeds

Getting back to the title of the thread, whilst our crowds are suffering in line with the general trend, what the hell has happened over in Loidland?

Serious question for the Loids on this board, because at that level I can see them shutting up shop before Christmas. It can't be worth switching the 'leccy on
