I think you can actually. You can tell when we're losing games with two minutes left and tossing one point after another away that there's little drive, determination and pride. It just shows that certain elements are just passing the time without ambition or desire. You don't have to be there with your determination meter testing the players do you?? Winners achieve, losers don't.

Complete bollox, you cant say the defense were 'rock solid' for example unless you saw the game. Sides can keep clean sheets due to poor finishing on the part of the opposition etc. Likewise you cant really comment that the side were 'back to their best'. Only those who were at the game can give such an opinion.

Its like taking POK's match reports based on newspaper or media reports as gospel.

I did'nt think it was a "brilliant" performance, but it wasn't bad either. There were times you just wished their was a target man up front, Behan was frustrated ( in my opinion ) though Boyd's appearence had an impact on, and off, the field. On the whole....Good !

I stated that there is no way you can give an opinion like Harrogate poolie did unless you were there (you cant really comment that we were back to our best and rock solid etc unless you were at the game surely!) Spender disagreed which I think is complete bollox so i said it. confised

And anyway, Im always getting accused of talking shiite, so i should be allowed to accuse others

Oh , I can be sooo vague at times....a sort of nodding of approval and murmers of "right now lets see what will happen" went around me where I was sitting when Boyd came on. I felt it !!

When I saw Boyd play in pre-season he looked more than a little off his game. Most notably, when the ball came to him it was not sticking and he was losing possession. Last night was a significant improvement in that area. He's not fully there yet, but he definitely appears to be getting there quickly. We saw a couple of glimpses of the old Boyd, and the old Boyd was without doubt a player to create a buzz around the place.

Just imagine having Brown, Boyd, Behan and larkin at the top of their game clappp . (oh, and foley)

I went last night - I think £6 for 120 minutes of football was great value for money. And I would have said that if we'd lost.

I think we won because BOTH the defence were rock solid AND Coventry upfront were really poor.

I think it Chris Coleman ackowledged that we were a good side last night when he had to put Clinton Morrison on - and even he didn't really play well.

i think a lot of us are optimistic simply because it has to be better than it has been for the last 2 years.

we begged the manager to dismantle the defence and he has. i still have my doubts about collins but at least he is now surrounded by pace and offered some protection.

the keeper has to better than what we have had for the last 2 seasons, and already looks better than we dared hope.

better than all of that is that the squad has strength in depth, and contains players with in most cases their best years ahead of them.

hopefully the fans will be enthusiastic, but at the same time realistic as to how soon this promise can be turned into something capable of pushing for promotion rather than scrambling for points to avoid relegation.

Cant fail to concur with that. clappp

I think everyone was so pessimistic, after the last two seasons and the seemingly poor preseason results.
I know, I went to MacDons, expecting a sound drubbing, but was very pleasantly surprised at what I saw.

Also Cov, was another shocker, in that we played some good football and built on what was created on Saturday.

I now feel a lot more positive about the season, but lets see where we are after about ten games before
we start getting carried away

I am cautiously optimistic we could achieve something a bit better than mid table/lower half of the table, if the team can continue to defend in a manner away from home at difficult grounds such as the first two games. No goals against tells its own story - plus the keeper has done what has been asked of him whenever the defence has been breached. Solid start and plenty of room for optimism, but like some have said we scored 7 in our first 2 games last season and disintegrated as the season wore on, mainly due to injuries to key players and not having good enough replacements (plus having 2 shit keepers and a shit defence)
Onwards and upwards
Come on Pools, let's get the ball really rollihg this Saturday!!!

Mind you I would still be reasonably happy with a draw against Charlton like

i think there's a very real danger of people getting carried away here by a win over coventry reserves. after all we beat west brom in the carling cup last season, and then nearly got relegated.

there are already very promising signs that the lessons of the last 2 seasons have been learnt, and the defence is finally in the process of being sorted. however talk of promotion is surely a bit premature and encourages unrealistic expectations.

the current team is very much a work in progress, and will no doubt have ups and downs in the coming weeks and months. probably best not to over react to one win. or for that matter one defeat.

I for one am not getting carried away but I do think people should also not go the other way and say things like it was only Coventry reserves we beat. You can only beat whatever is in front of you. That reserve team consisted of Wright,McIndoe Eastwood,Morrison, 4 players that over the years have cost clubs in excess of probably £10-£12 Million pounds. Throw in Dimi and you still have players that many Championship clubs would want.

Yes lets keep our feet squarely on the ground, but lets not under-estimate what was achieved both last night and on Saturday at MK. It may well turn to rat s*** in the coming weeks or months but at the moment 99% of Pools supporters are happy with the performances from first 2 games. And there is nothing wrong with a little optimism after the previous 2 seasons.

My feeling for this season is the same as last really; we have two centre floorboards at the club (Porter and Brown last year, Boyd and Brown this year) who really offer us something going forward; if they stay fit, we have reason to be optimistic. Boyd and Brown together (even though they didn't look fully fit) keep the ball and allow us to play football in the final third. Before their introduction last night, we worked hard, on the whole looked solid, but could easily have conceded but for good saves/poor finishing. While Behan offers something up front, and I'm optimistic he's a good signing, I was wondering how we'd score in the first half. There's also the usual cliche, that if you're stuggling to score, this puts pressure on the defence. The fitness of Boyd and Brown (especially Brown) holds the key for me. I'm sure our defence won't look so solid if we struggle to score.

In short, reasons to be cheerful but much can go wrong.

Lived in Leicester for a few years (near Birstall) loved walking by the canal, liked the pubs but just could'nt stand the difference between the north and Leicester. It seems an era ago now but I felt I wasted several good years there ! Used to go to The Kings (on King street) that was ok, my best mate still lives there !
